I know player housing is a bit off tech wise and that’s why it’s not happened, but you know what would be great… Guild Halls!
A place for your guild to hang out.
Hosts a banker/AH/various vendors. (unlockable)
You can showcase statues for your guild’s achi’s (they had this in WoD)
You can have statues to individual members to showcase “player of the week” / “memorials” just using the player model with a skin.
House profession tables etc. (unlockable)
Portals to places (unlockable)
It would be very much just WoD garrison except guild wide (so it wouldnt be starting from scratch dev wise) and a handy base for guildies to interact with each other, put up notices, hold events etc etc. Can be within it’s own instance and reachable via portal/HS etc. similar to the class halls in legion, but just guild specific (so no game breaking instance fails like in WoD).
You can even have pacts between a couple of guilds so a handful of them can merge their halls and showcase individual guild achis etc.
Could even have part of it dedicated to the “best on the realm” and showcase guilds that got current realm first etc.etc.
It wouldn’t host anything that’s OP in terms of content, just a bunch of quality of life/flavor things.
I think most players would rather stick with the personal housing system but it could be circumvented by simply adding “greater houses” which cost more so folks have to work together to get it, but you also need a share/delegation system for that as well (who can change decoration and do that do this, etc, possibly implement it into the guild system), so kind of a little bit of both solution.
I don’t think it’s technically impossible, but then I’m not a coder/game designer either.
Individual player housing isnt supported by the current engine and would need a lot of development time, which is why it’s not on the agenda for anytime soon.
My point is that guild halls is basically WoD Garrison 2.0 so would be supported/would not require too much dev time.
Complete waste of dev resources, player housing would get more traction. Otherwise people would just abandon guilds and form their own bank guilds for a player house.
Personally I don’t care for either. Hate housing in every MMO I’ve played becaise tje devs use it as an excuse to give boring rewards for things.
I think we will just not agree on that front . It will take just as much to do both and if it came to a choice of only one, I’d definitely go for the player version.
I can see that RPers in particular would love a guild hub of some kind. I’ve disliked them in other games. A mess that either everyone can take part in customising or it’s down to the officers. I just want my own space to do what I wish with and not be forced to get it via my bank guild.
No i think you don’t understand my point. It’s not something that’s to disagree on.
Blizzard have came out multiple times saying what they want to do for player housing (individual) is simply not supported by the current game engine and therefore would require significant investment to pull off. Which is why it hasn’t happened yet.
Whereas, what I am saying is: The infrastructure is already in place (i.e. WoD garrisons) to be able to build the guild halls as a (relatively) quick win.
As for personal preference, we would all love individual player housing. But that’s not the debate here.
I think the same applies to both, the garrison tech could be adapted for either.
Hence we disagree.
I have nothing against you wanting it. It’s just not something I’m personally ever going to get excited for. However I will be annoyed if the only way I can access my own customisable space is via my bank guild.
