I've just logged in to find the roster/communities option semi-fixed. And I use that term loosely. What a nightmare. It takes me normally around 2-3 hours on a good day to sort out my roster - this is probably going to double that.
* Can't appear to put notes on for either public or officer notes when the character is offline (this must surely be a bug?)**.
* Members can't add their own public notes.
* I can't see how long someone has been offline without individually clicking each character.
* I can't multi-sort (normally when doing promotions, I'd sort the roster list by both rank and name .. so each rank would be together from lowest to highest, with each member of that rank being alphabetical)
* The chat window settings - once you get into that there's no "back" button, or an exit button.
Normally I'm a big Blizzard fan .. but the amount of time I spend on admin for this and organising raids (because lets face it, the in-game calendar is rubbish too) has just gone up to stupid new heights. It does feel like they're saying one thing (it's all about the community) but actually meaning something completely different. Yes we've got these "Communities" now .. which may well be useful .. but the guild has always been the "home" for many people, somewhere to retreat to when LFR or pugging becomes too much, where people can trust that other guildies are going to be friendly and helpful.
This gives the feeling that they're trying to move away from that social, friendly feel of guilds, to that mass-produced, troll encouraging advertising platform that is Facebook. Before long there will be adverts inserted in the middle of community conversations and no-one to moderate trolls and bad behaviour because everyone who cared, gave up when guilds were given the final push.
Edit... ** this now appears to be working, so perhaps it's something that just took some time to activate after I logged in?

Just a quick note, some of these older options like how long someone hasn't logged on, edit notes easier etc can be done by typing /guildroster which opens the old UI.
It's not a solution, but a way to work around until we get a solution!
The question is though, ARE we going to get a solution? Or have Blizzard just decided that those options are not going to be there going forward? In which case, at some point the workaround will no longer work, as they take what they see as the redundant roster interface out of the game.

As Aerythlea replied to me in another forum thread
We're forwarding the feedback on about the change to the Guild Management UI and options.
We can only hope! Also, I have too thought that this work around could be gone, but until then and until the "fixes" we can use it.

They WILL walk it back if there is enough protest.
Usually their MO is to deliberately overreach - do more than they actually need to at the moment - and then be ready for a quick partial rollback. Partial. Not all the way.
Remember for example the ilevel damage and health buffs to mobs. I don't think they ever thought they were going to get away with that in one step. Remember how quickly they dropped the extra damage, and toned down the health? But they kept the control knobs, and didn't remove the mob health buff.
It's a good sign that they didn't actually remove the original roster. And are the ranks and permissions there as well? They probably only need the average player to get used to a tab with Guilds and Communities side-by-side for now.
And there will be a way for you to re-map the J key to /guildroster. You could do it with a macro now.
...
Why not allow me to set my members' notes if they are offline?
...
This actually appears to be working for me now. Initially when I logged in, I was unable to edit the notes for offline people. Actually .. initially I was unable to edit ANY notes .. then I faffed for a bit, had another go, and I could edit notes for those online, but not those off. Then a considerable amount of time later I checked again .. and I could edit offline notes too. So I don't know if there's a bug with the length of time the interface loads up fully, or if I've got another addon that's causing problems.
Something new I noticed just now is that non officers can't invite to the guild, even if I have checked the "allow to invite" in the guild management section.
Not sure why, when it has nothing to do with the "allow as officer and give them all the modification in the guild" option.
Anyway, if anyone else has that issue too, you can "solve" it with /guildroster and also tell it to your members to type it everytime they want to invite someone over :)
Or just be 24/7 online to not miss an invite, that's a solution too, you know.
I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but can we please keep the old guild UI, as well as get an option to bind a key for it?

I, and I'm assuming most members who invite, generally use /ginvite <charactername> (ideally using shift-click on someone in the chat pane) - would that now not work?

What I have done for the time being is go Esc > Macros > and make a macro with /guildroster
I am sure not many will spend the time to do that or put the effort just to be able to invite or whatever, but it's a way to be able to do some "older" stuff you can't now.
I don't mind keeping the new UI as long as we get the control of the guild back and also allow us to find members by they time they have been active, allow us to fix notes on offline members, allow members to invite (even if you have selected that you allow the rank to be able to, if they arent officers it currectly doesnt work).

I'm aware of that command but thanks for sharing!
The reason I was asking is because I really dislike the new UI, reminds me of Slack and Discord, old UI felt more comfortable and compact, allowing me do everything I want with the guild.
Not a guild master or officer anymore, but I agree. Guild masters need more choices not less. It would have been a nightmare to manage my old guild with the new restrictions.
I hope they come to they aid of you and other guild masters.

I believe they will. They won't leave us like that :D
*Me being such a posivite and hopeful person* xD
I'm glad I found this thread. Thought I was raging alone. I can only hope they change this, I am really not happy about what they've done for this expansion.
The guild management settings shouldn't be that hard to change. Switch the bullet points to check boxes - done. I see no reason for them to do this switch. Our guild lets our members edit their own notes, with important things in the Officer notes. Now they can't edit their public notes or even see teir Officers.

You are not alone! Hopefully we can make some noise, as they do in the US forums, to stir Blizzard's focus on us a bit :)
I see we have various hotfixes but yet no announcement of the guild UI issues.
I honestly hope DEVs will hear our voice. Its a shame that these changes are mostly felt by guild masters which are not so many so there is not going to be an army of people posting and creating pressure on Blizz to fix it.
The whole logic behind this change with "officer" permissions is beyond me. I imagine it could only come to being by something like this:
DEV: "Hey team! I got a great idea! It will help no one, but complicate life of many! It is connected to guild management..."
TEAM: "Yeah man, bring it on! F*** guilds! They are old anyway! We need to promote communities now!"
DEV: "Lets just make guild management more difficult by making "officer" rank that will combine most of the guild management options into one rank! And dont let guild masters choose which they want to use! That will piss them off and with several other changes I have already in mind, guilds will decline even faster than they do now!"
TEAM:" Oh, yeah! Great idea! Lets make it happen!"
Prepatch hits...
I don't know whether I'm just completely blind, or if they've kinda fixed it now .. but now in the extended guild roster list it does actually say the last time someone logged in (for those not currently online). It's in the same column as, for those online, it tell you where they are, iirc.
Not gonna lie, got pretty annoyed when I discovered what was previously 14 different settings is now "make officer".
I'm sorry, I don't run my guild that way. It's okay for people to be able to set all sorts of things but that doesn't mean I want them in my officer chat.
Just posting here to promote the topic so that Blizz actually see the problem and that it is still present and needs fixing!
As a Guild Master I had to post and try and promote this issue.
Not much I can add to the topic that has not already been said here or over on the US forums.
