Does anyone know if there’s a way to turn off the (*) that now appears after my guild name underneath my name when I play? I think it’s something to do with being on a different server than the guild is based, but it didn’t appear before the pre-patch. Thanks.
Advanced interface options named addon could help, theres option on disabling guild names for one and you can easily access cvar through it.

This bothers me as well. It isn’t a cross realm guild, it is a connected realm guild. It is effectively the same server as we share the same auction house, black market auction house etc. I don’t need a constant reminder that it is on another server that will make screenshots of my character more cluttered.
Have you guys looked if there is line for it on cvar? If guild names and the like are customizable through something like this advanced interface options with it interacting with cvar I think that could be too. It would be strange atleast if it werent. If for some odd reason not removable from cvar by changing some line from “1” to “0” then some nameplate addon like threat plates would be able let us customize what we want to see on that case. 
I only noticed it appearing an hour ago, so I doubt there’s already an option for it.
Ill look into it and say to this thread if I figure something through cvar, but Im not in any guild so its harder to test.
Im looking someone in game from my server and it says their guilds name and - another servers name, its like indication for xrealm guild if I understand this purpose. I try look for options for guild from cvar but dont see any that would indicate to this. Will probably require nameplate addon for now.
You mean on the tooltip? The issue is under the character name. For me it says <Colour> (*), indicating that it is on a different server. Before I’ve only ever seen it after other player’s names when they are not on the same server as me. But that never included people on the same connected realm as me. So this change doesn’t even follow the previous convention of counting the same connected realm as being the same server.
Yea, at first I just had to figure out what is it in order to try figure how to get rid of it. Im not in any guild so I dont know whats it for. Couldnt find anything for it from cvar in any case so would need nameplate addon to customize what see for names. I do it with threat plates.
