I am an old guy, have a job and don´t really have time to raid. The guild had however scheduled a raid for last Wednesday night, all the info said was to have Discord and be ilvl 190.
I asked my boss for a day off for 2 reasons, one is private and the other was the raid. I showed up at 20.30 all happy and ready to go, the group started forming but I wasn´t invited and was told there was really no room for another hunter as it was going to be a 10/10 and they had “plans”.
I felt slapped in the face with a sledge hammer, I didn´t quit the guild and have tried my best to stay nice and offer my aid when I am playing. I can´t let it go though, I spent a lot of effort and time to get ready for that raid buying pots and whatnot. I also feel a bit discouraged, not sure I will be raiding again as I don´t make a habit of asking my boss for time off.
My question is, is it actually normal for people to get rejected in a guild at raid hours? I may have reacted a bit immaturely on the inside when it comes to feelings and being hurt, just asking as I don´t know whether or not it´s actually a regular thing.
I have always loved leveling toons, Shadowlands is however the first expansion where leveling isn´t really my cup of tea and that´s why I wanted to give raiding a try.

Best to get your invite confirmed first…if it’s your Guild’s A team, they may well have an established roster… just being available at Raid time may not be sufficient.

Well, they did write to expect a few wipes as some people were still learning and I did make it clear that I was new to raiding when I applied. Maybe they did decide for an A team at that point, I don´t know, I got a weird excuse.

Sorry I can’t find the “Silver Lining” to this story!
Sorry to here you used a day of holiday, I guess now you know that in the future try and be confirmed first!
If you are relatively new to the Guild, they may have a core Raid team with a track record from previous Xpac’s.
It’s probably worth being around at Raid time, in case any of the regulars are unavailable…and also letting the Guild officers in charge of Raiding know that you are available for Alt team raiding, so they can see your skills…making sure you have read and understood guides to the Raid mechanics beforehand, will help.
Aaah okay, just went in game and checked, I didn´t even know about the “confirmation” thing, I thought I just had to put my name in and that was it. A bit naive I guess.
Vulpie, thank you, I think I get it now. Should probably look for a more newbie friendly guild with different raid hours if such a guild exists :).

sorry you took days off but its pretty much what Vulpie said. as long as you dont have a confirmed invite i wouldnt take any days off or expect to be accepted into the raid.
maybe have some talk with the raid leader how things are handled. some set things up via discord, some via in game calendar.

That’s your mistake, don’t be nice with people who reject you …
Very common in bad guild or guild with poor organisations.
Well, you got a bad start, now i’ve tried it, it’s not as great as you might think… And the loot really terrible in normal.

Depends heavily on how serious your guild is about raiding. In my guild we generally take anyone for normal clears as long as they meet the simple requirements of ilvl and discord.
But we also have a policy of giving priority to older members that have raided with the guild for a long time or also newer people who are active in the guild, just chatting, doing m+ and just getting to know the guild community. So far though we have just done normal and haven’t had to gate anyone from joining if they were interested.
I’d imagine this is how generally guilds would operate if they’re not a very serious CE pushing guild.

I would wait and see, if you are already in a Guild which definitely Raids regularly.
If you remain ‘benched’, then look into other Guilds, but check that you will definitely be involved in Raiding, if you jump ship.
Also bear in mind that Guild’s may want confirmation that you will be available to Raid regularly…your first post indicated that availability could be an issue, going forward.
This early in an Xpac some of the consumables for Raiding are quite expensive, so if the Guild provides those plus gold for repairs, to their team, they will probably want a regular return on that investment… the fact you were prepared to buy your own is a positive and has got me in to Alt Raid teams, in the past as a ‘guest’ Raider.
Yeah, also if you’re not especially attached to your current guild and can’t seem to find time or a spot in the roster to raid, there’s nothing wrong with looking for another guild where you’d fit better in. Usually just letting the guild know why you’re leaving is a good custom though

Addendum - If you want to do Raiding, install the Addon ‘Deadly Boss Mods’ (DBM) if you do not already have it… it’s an essential, along with Discord.

what you need to do is quite simple. You confirm things with the guild leader or an officer or the one managing the raid a few days earlier, instead of going there 10 minutes before the thing and expecting a slot to be available for you right away.
Tell them, I can join your run this wednesday, i have a day off, i’m ilvl this and that and if they give you the green light, then you can get ready for it.

There are guilds that raid all sorts of hours, find one that raids at times you are available. For example there are guilds that raid during the day for people who might work night shifts.

Well since I don’t have all the information about what happen or not I can’t really say much about the way the guild acted towards you. There is alot of information that is left out that I would have to have in order to answer that question.
Like are you in the guild as a trial? How big is their roster? Was it Normal/Heroic? Was the raid group full or was their open slots etc? So many blanks its hard to answer.
First reaction is that a player that was invited to the guild as a raider should have a raid spot, since I do feel that for Normal/HC you bring 30 until you have to cut down. And if the raid is full on 30 and they still have players on the bench they are abit overcrowded having 30+ raiders in todays wow is just a waste unless its a guild with several raid teams.
However I can say that if your RL/Work clashes with the guilds raid times you’re in the wrong guild in the first place. You should look for a guild that suits your needs better. And from the sound of that guild doesnt.
Or potentially join pug runs which you can do whenever you have time to go.
Ive not read all of the replies but have you spoken to the person who made this decision? That will let you know if its the guild for you.
This is odd. MM hunter is strong af, just look at the amount of them topping stuff in top guilds stream atm.
Obviously i dont know how many hunters your guild ran with but.
That’s just poor form on your guild’s part… raids are flexible, they could’ve had you in and easily filled the gaps with some pugs. There’s plenty of competent players around for Normals and Heroics.
Not going to lie, I laughed.
Sorry for your bad experience, but never trust any random guild and never waste irl resources for a raid unless you know you’re in the raid group. I suggest quit that guild as its only used by your gm and his buddies to gear up as is the majority of guilds these days

In the only classic guild I joined, I got replaced as an MC raid was being formed up in favour of my class leader, who hadn’t even signed up for the raid. Reason ‘you’re not 60’. I was and the raid details was 58+ anyway. I waited 12 hours before i /gquit
