Guild Transfer limitations question

Hi. We are wanting to move our guild, which I understand isn’t currently available.

In order to take advantage of the bulk character transfer sale, we’re wanting to start this process sooner rather than later, so one of the options was to transfer one of my characters to the new realm and create a new temporary guild, until the guild transfer option becomes available again.

I’m the leader of the guild.

However, I notice in the Guild Services article (https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/000032543 ) that it states: “You cannot purchase a new guild service if you have used a guild or a personal character service (such as an individual character transfer) within the last 30 days.

Does this refer to me as an account holder, or simply the character who is guild leader? ie … if I transfer a different character, who is not the guild leader, but is in the guild, to the new realm, does this mean I could not then transfer the guild for another 30 days? Or is it just saying that if the character that is the guild leader has transferred within 30 days, it’s not available?

Oooh also … after a guild transfer, it states that a placeholder guild remains in it’s place. How long does that remain?

I’m afraid I don’t know the answer to your first post … but, so far as I know, the placeholder guild stays forever on the old realm unless the members who chose not to stay disband it. But that could be wrong …

Hey there Poisonenvy!

These restrictions are almost universally Character-specific, so moving guild master would mean you would be able to transfer sooner if you’d recently done a service but had to change plans RE: your guild recently.

Also, as per the support article, the guild name on the old realm is unavailable for 30 days, as it stated in the Guild Services article

Ah, ok. I read that but misunderstood what it meant

Honestly, I must be completely thick because I’m still not really clear on it lol.

I think what has been said relating to the character transfer restriction is that I’m fine transferring another character to the new realm, prior to moving the guild - the 30 day restriction doesn’t apply.

With respect to the placeholder guild … the answer I got was not to the question I asked, I don’t think.

I understand that after transferring the guild, the guild name on the old realm is unavailable for re-use for 30 days. But what happens to the placeholder guild? On the 31st day does it just disappear? Or does it just disappear if someone makes a new guild with the newly released previous guild’s name?

What I’m asking is that … inevitably when we move, there will be a bunch of people who do not move at the same time. Some of them are away for work, some of them are simply inactive currently, others just have a lot of alts and just can’t afford to move them all at once. When the guild moves, they’ll be placed in a placeholder guild which, I’m assuming, will still allow guild chat, but won’t have any of the other benefits of being in a guild. After 30 days, will they log in and simply not be in a guild?

I think the problem with the articles linked is that they probably make complete sense, when you know what the answer is. But when you don’t know, they don’t. A bit like trying to look up a word in a dictionary to work out how to spell it, when you don’t know how to spell it :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve spoken to a guild member who knows someone in Blizz CS, who said that you’re correct in thinking the placeholder guild remains until it’s disbanded. I’m assuming it gets given a “placeholder” type guild name, so that, after 30 days, if someone else wanted to use the guild name, they could, and it wouldn’t affect the placeholder guild.

I’m aware a placeholder guild doesn’t have the normal guild stuff, of course, but don’t know whether that means they don’t get a guild chat anymore.

As for the character transfer restriction … initially she said that, because I’d bought some transfer tokens, that meant I was unable to transfer the guild for 30 days: “You cannot purchase a new guild service if you have used a guild or a personal character service (such as an individual character transfer) within the last 30 days” - but I questioned that because it just seemed a bit unfair … and then she came back and said she thinks that just refers to the guild master and the guild - ie, the guild can’t transfer again within 30 days of the guild/GM transferring previously.

I’m fully aware, and guilty of, occasionally typing stuff down and thinking it makes sense, simply because I know what it means … but honestly, the amount of inaccurate/confusing information being given out sometimes is worrying.

Hey Poisonenvy,

The previously linked Guild Services support article would cover most of your questions already, from the text at the bottom:

After the transfer, guild members remain in a placeholder version of the original guild. This placeholder guild does not have access to the guild bank, achievements, reputation, or awards. If a member quits the placeholder guild, they lose one rank of reputation with the original guild.

If they meet the requirements, guild members can purchase a Character Transfer to follow the guild to its new server. After the transfer, they will automatically rejoin the guild and restore their guild reputation. This process clears the Guild Activity feed. You can also use a Free Character Migration (if available) to rejoin the guild if the transfer didn’t include a faction change.

Note : If a member transfers before the guild does, or quits the placeholder guild, they will not automatically rejoin the guild.

The “shell copy” of your guild will be headed by a character you assign during the process, and existing guild members will continue to be able to log into in as part of the guild, use guild chat etc along with the details above, but with limited guild activity functionalities otherwise. It should still have your old guild name. That name will not be available for anyone else to reuse within those 30 days, but afterwards the guild name may be freed up by request of someone else as the guild would be considered inactive due to its status as a shell copy after that timeframe. It would still remain as a shell copy, but more likely with a standardised name like “Guild of Poisonenvy” or a partially randomised name. If you have a guild website, forum or Discord channel I recommend keeping an announcement about your intent to move active or stickied for returning long-term-inactive players. Please also note the callouts about members quitting the guild prior to your Guild Transfer, or quitting the shell copy before initiating a transfer.

As for eligibility, you will need to have been Guild Master for at least 7 whole days, with an authenticator attached, and with the Guild Master character having been logged in at least once after said authenticator has been attached to have our systems recognise it and start that 7 day timer. Having unused Character Transfer tokens will not be an issue for this.

Now THAT is useful information … thank you so much! I mean obviously I’ve been looking at the standard support stuff, but it doesn’t cover things like whether there is guild chat, or what happens after 30 days - especially if someone else reuses the guild name. It also doesn’t cover if there would be a guild calendar … but I guess we’ll find that out when in happens.

The process is going to take time - not everyone will be transferring immediately, so there is going to be some period of time where we’ll actually be doing guild events with people from both realms. Yeyy for more admin.

We have already notified on all our channels … website, facebook, discord, MotD but, inevitably, there will always be a few who are completely oblivious :stuck_out_tongue:

Of course our main problem at the moment is that we can’t actually move the guild. And as there is currently a character transfer sale on, we wanted to move during that window (I realise that people can buy and keep tokens to use later but … again referring to those oblivious … ), and also once we’ve decided to move, we can’t really do guild recruitment any more until after we’ve actually moved, so the sooner the better.

So our only other option is to create a temporary guild on the new realm, get people into that, make an effort to contact anyone remaining, and then transfer the guild itself, whenever/if it’s possible in the future.

Anyway … thank you for your answer. It was very helpful.
