Gul'Dan Lore question

So, in BC we can see that illidan holds the skull of Gul’Dan, but we can see Gul’Dan in WOD and legion, how does this work? Was it a fake skull or what is going on?

I think WOD was alternative timeline. So he is another Guldan.

There is whole story with Illidan and Skull of Gul’dan dating back to WarCraft 3 in which Gul’Dan was already dead and that story tells how Gul’Dan died. So basically, Skull of Gul’dan became a powerful artifact that Illidan was seeking to gain powers.

Gul’dan from Warlords of Draenor is not the same Gul’dan that died on Azeroth but he is equally bad. Warlords of Draenor is not a jump into a history event.

Warlords of Draenor is more like a…well, it’s based on scientific theories that every each one of us exist in parallel universe where we look same but we lead completely different lives. Or we live in parallel universe which is very much like our universe but there are differences.

Gul’dan was either sent or he escaped to Azeroth after Archimonde was defeated at the end of WoD in Hellfire Citadel.

Whole Warlords of Draenor happened because Garrosh broke into that timeline by breaking some time crystal something of or with a Dragon, I forgot details.
