[H][RP][Criminal] Oath of Silver

When it comes to the fall of a society… the rich stay rich, and the poor get poorer.

They sit in their lofty towers and sneer down at the rest of us. They polish their shiny armour, and read their books, and have their servants wash their robes. They debate the lofty issues and ignore the dirty ones down here on the streets. They walk past the alleyways, heads held high, and the screams and curses don’t even make them pause.

And what do we do? We slip into the shadows left by such shining beacons of elvenkind. We walk in their wake and beneath their notice, and we manage all manner of tasks that they will never even see.

The Merchant’s Last Coin tavern thrived. It was chaos and noise and bustle and everything a tavern should be, everything that you would expect of a coin-turning business in the heart of a thriving city. It lived up to the ideals of prosperity and indulgence that were held in esteem by the elven culture. A paragon.

It was exactly what it should be, flaws and virtues alike, and nothing discourages scrutiny like that which is exactly what it’s expected to be. And with that cover, Theolain Nor’danel and his merry band of misfits made their home, explained away their gains, settled their aliases and alibis, and perhaps above all else, found a home and a family of their own.

And with the veil of normality and the met expectations of a bustling business, few noticed the glances shot across rooms, the notes passed across the bar-top, the occasional stranger ushered upstairs for reasons unknown.

[Oath of Silver] is a criminal guild aiming to fill a niche within the elven community. Our theme is flexible enough that we offer RP for a variety of characters, from scummy street rats to more classical power-hungry villains, from the honest civilian doing all the wrong things for all the right reasons, to the wayward nobles and disillusioned soldiers alike.

We aim to provide mature, high quality and lasting criminal RP, and a functioning city underbelly. Our RP revolves around snail-paced progression towards becoming one of the prominent criminal organizations in Silvermoon and the High Kingdom. This is our ‘impossible goal’ the red thread of the guild’s story-line; following that red thread, the role play we do can be summed up as providing a subtle undercover and more professional outfit. We aim to meet mafia-styled ideals, where we work with the law, and hide-in-plain sight by dressing and behaving inconspicuously in public as often as possible. We do what we can to stay under the radar while doing our shady deeds behind closed doors, in dark alleys or in remote parts of the forest.

In other words, we are leaving daytime street assaults and assassinations to other guilds, groups, and individuals. We play dealers, fences, thieves, con artists, professional gamblers, mercenaries, pirates, alchemists, smugglers and other such normally civilian-based concepts that opens a broader spectrum of things to do aside from kicking people in the shins and running.

The subtlety of the concept allows for a wider range of characters to get involved as well, we have Blood Knights, Magisters and Nobles all on our books, so don’t be afraid to poke us and ask even if you think your character concept won’t fit, you might be surprised! If you are after the more high-octane criminal behavior Oath is not for you. Some want havoc and rebellion, we want power and a profitable network of useful individuals inside and outside the guild.

Unlike many guilds, [Oath of Silver] does not host many regular events or large inter-guild campaigns. We don’t give regular orders or feed people story-lines consistently. Rather than spoon feeding our members scripted events on set schedules, we try to include each other through organic role play instead of plot and plan out-of-character how we can make everyone happy.

We encourage our members to take responsibility for their own stories and roleplay, to add their flavor and bring their personal character plots to the guild and work towards becoming an integral and useful part of the group. We want everyone to affect the flow and direction of our story and make themselves count, rather than being told where their place is and what they can and cannot do. We want our members to feel like they matter, and contribute something of consequence. However, only they can assure they’re not a ghost in the guild by inserting themselves.

That said giving back to the community is part and parcel of our concept. We currently run two public community events towards that aim. These events provide us with a cohesive cover story, locations, and reasons for folks to get involved and start storylines, but primarily to provide something for the community on the whole and encourage random RP and making new acquaintances outside of guild bubbles.

We have also run several other community-centric events over the years to further this aim and goal, such as Fight Club’s, Newspapers, and Coalitions. Some of these are dormant at the moment due to time limits and the right people/characters being involved to run them but you can find information on all of these in the forums on our website linked below, and if you have a suitable character then by all means, get in touch!

What We're Looking For
  • People with something to bring to the table, those that know they are the driving force behind their own RP and are willing to drive their RP and create RP around themselves.

  • Those who enjoy taking their time with things, over instant gratification. Storylines and character development take time.

  • Rich and interesting character concepts that allows interaction inside and outside the guild, both when it comes to shady business and being social. A lone wolf might be cool for stories, but they will struggle in [Oath of Silver]

  • Those who enjoy developing and discovering new things about their and others’ characters. A diamond in the rough working on honing their skills or expanding their horizon is usually more fun than ‘the perfect package’ sitting around waiting for the rest to catch up.

Contact and Application Information

We want to recruit slowly and carefully, to make sure that we get people who suit the guild, and that the guild is the right one for them. Our focus is on quality over quantity. For those who want to make something happen with us without joining the guild itself, feel free to drop a line to any of our members in-game.

  • We recommend you visit http://www.oathofsilver.enjin.com. Our website and our public forums on there to read up more about the guild.

  • Write us an application here: www.oathofsilver.enjin.com/recruitment. The application is out of character, and mandatory.

  • When the application is approved or declined, we’ll let you know. If it’s approved, we will discuss moving on to the IC stage and getting involved in-game.

  • And if, after this, we’re convinced you’d be a good fit for Oath, the invitation to the guild will be issued and a short trial period will commence, just to make sure everything gels well.

  • For more information in-game, contact the following: Theolain / Theolaín / Alyxandria

Current plots running within the guild, that members work together in to form narratives and spin-off events regularly.

The Red Mist Cartel

Theolain Nor’danel is not in the market of killing people, he is a businessman at heart and dead-men make bad customers. With that in mind Oath move in more subtle but no less illegal areas of business, with Theolain’s own personal passion for herbalism and alchemy, one of their leading revenues of business is the drugs trade.

That said these guys are not just pushers on street corners, this is organised crime and as such it has big goals and solid preparations. These are not armatures. Drugs are one thing, and a common thing perhaps, but it is not all Mister Nor’danel has in his plans, not when there is not only coin but potentially useful contacts to be made elsewhere. The drugs simply open the doors.

The Sun's Shadow

Theolain Nor’danel is a man of ambition and drive, too proud and stubborn to concede defeat without reason, and cunning and intelligent enough to expand his horizons past his own personal means. The boy that once had nothing now has a very great deal, but it is not yet enough. Even from the top of his ladder, his ambition streaks higher, and even with all his wealth and gains, all his men and loyalty, there are doors he still cannot open. Doors that can only be opened with one thing.

Bloodline. Name. Status.

In the shadows of the Sun Courts he has been working, aligning his game pieces, making allies, setting his plays and arranging his plan, and his plan has gained him that which he lacked, his plan has gained him access, use, and control of a bloodline. A name. Their influence. Their guards. House A’lorai. A House that needs his wealth and men as much as he desires their name, and so in the shadows an alliance was formed, the first of many, and the first move, in a very long game ahead.

The Silver Challenge

While Sin’dorei society as a whole may scoff at the brutal gladiatorial bouts of some of the other races, there are those among the denizens of the woodland realm who acknowledge and understand the appeal behind contests of strength and skill. Oh, and the potential profit, too.

The Silver Challenge has been organized to bring the men and women of Oath together within the realm of Quel’thalas to gather, drink, bet and fight. With no grander goal than to allow those who are so inclined to test their mettle against one another, air grievances, vent frustrations. A simple and honest contest of unarmed martial prowess. Grudges are left in the ring and for a little while, away from the watchful eyes of the Kingdom’s peacekeepers, people revel in the simple brutality of two souls squaring off for pride and fortune.

The Silver Challenge is currently run as an inter-guild event, but if you’d be interested as an outsider, get in touch!

These are Events and Plots we have run in the past but no longer have the time or people available to run. If you would be interested in taking any of them on you can get in touch with us. We’d love to see them revived, we simply don’t have the right people on hand at the moment with the time to do it.

The Coalition

What the cities guard are or are not doing has never prayed on Theolain’s mind overmuch, they have never yet managed to get in his way, but when it came to the city and more specifically the underbelly, those were the souls more likely to tangle his business, and chew holes in his ship from the inside. Those were the souls he needed to be paying attention to, while aware that simply removing them is likely not in his most profitable interests either.

He has taken to narrowing the focus and create the Coalition, to create a loose cooperative of groups and people that regardless of their separations would benefit from some cohesion, collaboration and shared interests within the city of marble and magic.

The Merchant's Voice

The Merchant’s Voice is a two page fortnightly/monthly newsletter. Theolain and his people may as ever have their own aims, goals, and agendas with it, it may not always be the truth, they might even know it is not true or they too might just be passing on an untruth they have been told. Such is the media, we’re aiming to not only provide an interesting gambit for the community but also a resource, a tool or a weapon depending on who you are and how you use it.

We aim to not only provide the article itself but to do so in the hopes that it then inspires and generates RP in reaction and relation to that fact. Who is leaking news about what and who is slandering who? If nothing else we hope it creates a conversation piece and talking point in-game.

Probably one of the most warm and welcoming guilds I had the delight of being a part of, these guys are good folks.

One of the few times I have ever been able to type this, but this is Criminal RP done right. After a couple of Years Brigante still thinks of them as just a ‘concerned Citizen’ group. OOC I know they are as dodgy as a nine pound note, IC he just thinks they are a civilian conglomeration with genuine philanthropic tendencies. I love how they operate, because you genuinely cannot fault it, and it is never obvious, which makes it -more- fun to interact with. As an outsider with no alts in the guild I still say 10/10, doing criminal RP right…

Thank you for the kind words, good sirs. Happy to be your friendly neighborhood criminals! I’m glad we finally got around to getting this reposted too, these new forums sure are a…Whole Thing.

Sounds like a really good concept and I have heard some good things about Oath of Silver before.

I only hope that like any other criminal RP guild consequences are accepted and not brushed off like someone threw a pebble at you.

We 100% take consequences seriously, that is why as Brigs said we work so hard to make everyone believe there is nothing shady going on here, no sir. We know that criminal RP can fall prey to a very short shelf life if they are not subtle about their ill-doings. And that’s as it should be!

That’s great to gear! Honestly it truly is. You have no idea how many criminal RPers and/or criminal guilds I have seen that avoid such or just god-emote becoming this untouchable being that no guard can touch or no other RPer can do bad against them.

I look forward to seen where this guild will go!

The best Bunch of folks you would ever meet on Argent Dawn they are so welcoming.

Which is ironic since IC there all scoundrels.

It’d be a crime not to check out these great bunch of role players. I’ve enjoyed my interactions with them vastly over the years and am glad I made the recent decision to join them. I’ve already robbed them and has gotten beaten up for it, can recommend.

Had fantastic role-play with some of the members tonight, positively responsive and made me feel welcome - happily recommend, and can’t wait for future interaction!

P.S. Lorenthas, you need to try and keep your number three spot.

Had some roleplay a few days before with you, was fun  Thanks!

Ferenis sat on the edge of his bunk, feet planted firmly against the ground with his fingers clasped loosely before him. The floorboards between his bed and his brother’s were covered in weapons of all shapes and sizes, from misericordes to bastard swords, hand-held pistols to his brother Eiondel’s beloved rifle. With a small smile of satisfaction, he reaches out and picks up the closest weapon to his booted feet - a dirk, slender and sharp, perfect for sliding between a man’s ribs. The blade fits easily into the back of his belt, another knife being stashed in his left boot for safe-keeping. A steel wire gets shoved into his right bracer, his trusty knuckledusters already hanging from their leather cord at his waist.

Ferenis stands and moves to the mirror over their sink, taking a couple steps backwards until he can get a feel for the overall look. To anyone else he looked like any other civilian, dressed in a pressed workman’s suit with capped boots to protect his toes from falling crates. Something was still missing though…With a quick look around the room, he spots it - his tie, left abandoned over the top of his chair after the last bar shift. Ferenis grabs the piece of fabric and fastens it around his neck, straightening the lapels of his jacket with a fierce grin. If only his mother could see him now.

He glances to the empty bed beside him and nods, heading for the door. He couldn’t let his brother go off without him, and looking late in Mr Nor’danel’s eyes would only damage the reputation he was trying to cultivate of being a punctual, hardworking employee. With one last look around the room, Ferenis steps out and off into the city, locking the door soundly behind himself.

Tonight would be the night. All he had to do was stand there and look pretty, maybe throw a punch or two. Not that he cared. As long as he got steady coin for his troubles, Ferenis would do just about anything for his new boss. Besides, he hadn’t been to the Bay in years. It’d be nice to see some old faces about the place - some more than others, but it was all the same to him.

He grins then, his heartbeat already thundering with excitement at the prospect of a good brawl.

Tonight couldn’t come fast enough.

Not sure I can promise the same thing, brother.

I prefer you both on your worst behaviour.

Oath of Silver turned six years old today!

That’s sort of cool, that a crime-style guild would last that long. At the end of the day, I think its down to the people that, if you’ll excuse the cliche, poured so much of themselves into creating good stories and narratives. The people that stay motivated and driven, and inspired others to do the same. Its down to every good sport and every person that ever gave us a chance. Its down to the long game plots, and the communities and connections that were forged in the making of those plots.

I’ve been lucky enough to call Oath home for the last two years, and with them found a loveable bunch of misfits both in character and out. We’re a family, and families stick together and endure. I love all of you so very much. Here’s to another six more years.
