Harrassment, Sexism and worse at the heart of Blizzard?

Saw a comment on Reddit, which got a laugh out of me.

The Gloria Steinem remark in Brack’s email reads like: “Greetings, fellow feminists.”

No no,

It reads if they are wondering on how to go to court, by helicopter, yacht or car?

Personal jet, obviously.

I am of the opinion that we shouldn’t need to stop enjoying a product due to the author or creator’s absolute car-crash inducing antics or opinions (looking at the author of Harry Potter series).
Not everyone at Blizzard will come into this toxic basement dwelling Redditor camp, those who do and who have been involved with harassment though should be punished for their actions however.

The plus side is that, thankfully current retail WoW is atrocious as the behaviour being described as taken place that I don’t think there’s much loss in just leaving the rotting carcass as it is.

It would make life very hard considering how certain metals, fabrics and adhesives are collected.

When it comes to Harry Potter series, it’s a bit different since it’s not really a fully collaborative effort and you’re more directly supporting the author anyway.

Engaging in fandom or whatever is 100% fine though.

With WoW, it’s a collaborative effort (though seems to have been made only by the harassed women since the men are off getting drunk or playing other games during work?) though, so having that option is a bit more complicated. I think it’s still valid not to enjoy the product any more or feel as if it is tainted, and vote with your wallet.

There’s a big grey area for these things and even progressives will differ on where they draw the line - when like 7 corporations sell literally every product it can get very messy very quickly, or there are some disabled folks who rely on services like Amazon and don’t have a viable alternative, etc.

The big thing that causes a distinction is that Lovecraft’s work is public domain and most people are just after the cosmic horror themes and the strict aesthetics rather than the ‘mixed-race people are literally fish-people abominations’ ones, so it’s a lot easier to write your aboleth/OC fanfiction.

For Wizard Lady, not only is she (sadly) still alive and earning off the brand but also her bigotry is baked into the entire world and story she wrote. Buying anything official gives her monetary support, and even fanfiction or similar work puts her in the spotlight and gives her work, and her by extension, legitimacy that she will use and has used to dump on minorities.

For Warcraft it’s much more of a personal choice. This issue is systemic, so an individual boycott is a very small gesture. It is extremely rare to have a corporation that doesn’t have problems like this most of the way up, and although it could be argued that you are supporting the structure by purchasing the product the actual impact of your £8-9 a month is miniscule and doesn’t really signal much of anything - certainly not compared to the genuine harm someone might do themselves by cutting themselves away from friends and storylines that they are invested in.

Like I said, very complicated.
