Harrassment, Sexism and worse at the heart of Blizzard?

Uh, Acrona is a secret Blizzard employee confirmed… A good one though, fighting the evil higher ups and trying to change the society from within!

Probably

It’ll be silence because they’re all tied to this court case and saying anything might incriminate them even further, legally

Given they’ve dispersed in the past 2-3 years and when Afrasiabi left, this is probably right :withered:

I’ve been gone from the RP scene now for a time now and I have to say.

WTF Blizzard.

I’m genuinely conflicted. As much as I would like to return to RP, I love the people of AD, but I feel torn to support a company with disgusting behavior like this.

I Honestly hope that either Blizzard Take a good look at themselves or WoW is sold to a better company.

Any legal team worth even a penny an hour will tell everyone involved to keep their entire mouth shut unless they’re being deposed and say zero words on the subject

What a horrible clip. Especially when many female characters in Warcraft have been sort of just self-inserts or fantasies of the devs, so they’re also walking magazines etc.

However, this also reminds me a lot of the criticism Mass Effect: Andromeda had, or more recently, the… Horizon Zero game, I think? Where if the (main) character(s) isn’t conventionally attractive, it’s already terrible or something.

Which I think is very telling of the pervasive misogynistic culture Gamers™ have bred to be normalised. It’s become hard to tell stories for any character, because if they aren’t conventionally attractive, or if they belong to any sort of minority groups, their entire identity or character is immediately scrutinized head to toe, while same energy isn’t shown to any much shallower but conventionally attractive straight/cis/white/male main characters.

‘Why is the character black!!! Why is the character gay!!! What purpose does it have for the story???’ screams a mouth breather, on the verge of passing out from rage because… the character isn’t a conventionally attractive straight white male they can project their own personality on to escape their own issues with their body or something idk?*

All while not asking why the character has to be straight/white/cis/male and what purpose it has on the story. Because somehow, the character has suddenly become impossible to connect with?

(* obviously a joke for the most part, but indeed - why aren’t the same questions asked for straight white male characters?)

And if those questions do arise, they’re immediately sneered at, as shown in the clip, or dismissed/patronized by the developers partaking in harassment of women while reducing them to sexual objects.

Gross.

email from j allen brack to the staff off the back of the news

Totally inadequate and slimy, gross

It also seems to directly contradict their initial statement of innocence

That women made a good question. I don’t get why she needs to be boo’d for it.

People should’ve agreed with her and take it even a step further, why does every male in game has to be a hulking, steroids-filled muscleman?

I would love for my human warrior to resemble myself more, not be this hulking He-man.

I’m trying to decipher his tangent about Gloria Steinem. It reads like a sentence he forgot to delete.

why do night elven men look like balloon people

(but yes - true, more body options!!!)

that initial statement was awful and probably resulted in the person (probably PR) being dismissed

it reads very much like a trump administration rebuttal

Countless employees of varying levels within the company hierarchy harass and abuse women: Blizzard sleeps

PR employee with poor choice of wording under high-pressure circumstances: real sh*t

Still looking for a skinny draenei, Velen style

Lean human like seen in Kul Tiras. Would love for my human to look like that.

It’s an anecdote equivalent of “I can’t be racist, I have a black friend”.

Pretty much exactly this, yeah.

how can the video game industry be toxic and sexist when it’s run by gamers

They targeted gamers.

Gamers.

We’re a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did.

We’ll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it’s fun.

We’ll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second.

Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded.

Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?

These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We’re already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren’t shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We’ve been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a sh*tty head set. They picked a fight against a group that’s already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they’ve threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can’t is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.

Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You’re not special, you’re not original, you’re not the first; this is just another boss fight.
