What I’ve found is that there’s no challenge in WoW for levelling (relatively new player.) Levelling is the same for me across all 105 levels I’ve done, it hasn’t been difficult and nothing has changed, all that’s changed is the time it takes to level.
New players don’t get to experience raids until they can run around ones hitting things (not fun) and there’s no tough dungeons, some just take a little longer.
The game is too easy and it isn’t fun to grind through easy content when it just means it’ll take longer to reach the level after this one.
You’ve pretty much raised the problem in a nut shell.
Doing 120 levels for what reason?
It’s fine if you played through all the prior content and did the raids and dungeons when they were current content but past that point and frankly well past that point in many cases and you often wonder why it is still like that.
To play the game, from scratch 14 or so years ago meant leveling to 60 then playing for years at that level, then 70 and 80-85-90-100-110 and now 120.
New players will never ever experience the game as it was when those were the level caps.
It’s a shame really but Blizzard designed the game that way and need to address the simple fact that the content from previous expansions is useless and redundant by their own making.
Is it the long time loyalists or new players? If it is the latter the game needs to be reworked. If it’s the former, then continue by all means but Blizzard need to listen to their community.
Yes it’s too large. I expect big changes for the next expansion. For instance, a cataclysm 2 where azeroths basic zones are revamped (healed) after the battle for azeroth. Level cap squish to 60+10 for new expansion, all old expansions are now labeld legacy, and can only be accessed from a optional dlc for free if you have a max level character, mainly to save space for the ones not intressted in legacy stuff such as transmogs and mounts etc, but also to get those old expansions out of the way
Keep in mind that the cataclysm world is older than the world it once revamped, old expansions are stacking up etc… time to clean this mess up and make it less confusing.
So basically good ol azeroth revamped + new expansion content. Optional ”wow legacy” pack that you can install aswell.
Iv said this 100times, we DoNOT need anymore zones. you really don’t need a new continent every time we have an expansion, i’d rather the whole world be usable every expansion.
And i just wish they would make a proper mega server so we actually see people in the open.
I totally agree levelling is not only pointless it 100% discourages people from playing, iv got friends iv tried convincing to come back and play wow after it playing since Mop times. and they are totally put off by the thought of being that far behind and having that many levels to go through, yet they do not want to boost a character because they feel like they wouldn’t understand their characters and need to gain understanding gradually.
Because neither is ideal they simply have never returned.
Levelling is without a doubt pointless now, no new spells, nothing. might as well stop with the levels all together.
Some really interesting discussions. I agree no new massive zones are needed. legion worked so well because quests were spread over more zones;
Highmountain
Val’sharah
Stormheim
Azsuna
We were in each zone for just 2 ish levels and it finished with a cinematic and a completion to that story and a corresponding dungeon. BFA have attempted to do this but have messed up somewhere along the say as you can get from 110- 117 in just one zone making the others pointless. There are too many side quests and no attachment to the zones. They feel over done. I also think you spend too long in each zone so it just gets tedious and boring hell I think Stormsong Valley has some interesting story but blimey that zone is DULL.
I like tirisgarde sound and drustvar but stormsong valley is booring and tedious and I agree legion zones were the best as far as the story progression go and how leveling should be but in kul tiras it’s no fun you don’t get to even complete half of the storyline and you are already level 120 it’s just . Tirisgarde made you feel like you were playing pirates of the Caribbean and drustvar made me feel a bit like a witch Hunt and Celtic mythology.
I came slightly unstuck on my Alliance char when I didn’t have all the FPs in Drustvar because they are gated behind questlines. So I’d use my whistle and end up at a flighpath with no flightmaster
Hehe you could have just bought for 500gold all the flight paths unlocked in boralus and how the heck does that happen you always have to get to flight master when you use the whistle
I was a new player in legion (or I hitted max level in the 2nd month of legion, I started like 4 months before legion release). And I just did a mindless 110 levels of grinding quests. I even stopped somewhere for some weeks since it was boring. I liked the surroundings but it looked like everything I did was not usefull (killing 12 boars a couple of times and then killing 1 big boar after it is even for a new player kind of boring). Also I was pretty much alone in the world.
I have no clue about lore. Apparently you need to do dungeons and raids to understand a little what is going on. I now still have no clue and I actually do not care anymore either. Everyone can get hyped about an illidan story, fine by me. Or now a jaina story. I have no idea what lordaron is, what someone mentioned in this topic.
I know, I am not a fanatic reader of external websites. I am a gamer.
Can understand that mate! My advise play Warcraft RTS games since you are a gamer. That will show you the story.
I also advise you to read Warcraft Chronicles which summarizes the story.
Also when you will be bored by the current expansion content, try to go to old content and pay attention to it, you will understand which battles were fought there and why!
I understand what you are saying but I would liken WoW to other IP’s like maybe the marvel / dc universes. Are there too many spiderman comics to read? Too many films too watch?
If you want to do them all, yes. But that is just one option, and doesn’t stop you enjoying the new releases.
The difficulty for blizzard is making sure each expac feels sufficiently different without completely trashing previous storylines each time. That is hard, but that is also why they have professional writers.
I think maybe then the issue is making each expansion so big adding planets and layers of lore locked behind various stages of the expansion. Is hiding the story behind these layers a good idea?
