Sometimes itâs easier if
People just go ahead
Even if they donât want to
Lie about stuff

Ah nvm i saw what you quoted now.
I got the word by pasting the quoted text⊠Iâm not losing my T3 for the 4th time
The conversation isnât really about whether or not the name is offensive though, but about how it is seemingly handled in an automated fashion.
It could have been the n word and 20 seconds after being reported is still an automated system.
Regardless of if itâs justified or not makes no difference to me.
Iâve had some of my character names for half my life, the idea that I could talk smack to someone in WoW and then they abuse the automated system to have my name flagged and forced into a name change is quite concerning.
Iâve done this argument countless times though, just on a different topic, the silence system.
Automated report systems doesnât seem to concern a lot of people, to me itâs unacceptable.
Pretty much everything is automated these days. Itâs just a lot cheaper to handle manually the false positives than any single case.
If your name was changed though, it was ultimately because it wasnât considered appropriate. The amount of time you had a name is completely irrelevant if it violates the rules of the server you are playing on.
That is where youâre wrong if itâs an automated system.
But it isnât an automated system though, or I donât believe it is. The reports about the systems being automated has every time been dubious at best, and Blizzard has very recently and often confirmed that every final action is a manual one.
With the silence for example, the squelsh is automated, but if you recieve a longer silence & or suspension, it was a manually applied one.
Same with the naming reports. There is no automation, and a majority of people who has claimed it is has been proven wrong & have just been salty over that they got actioned.
Oh I definetly saw people asking to be reported for a free name change in trade before.
Itâs definetly two different discussions yeah.
I donât think the system should be completly automated. The best solution imo would be to substitute the offending name by a random one until a GM decides whether or not the old name was okay to use or not (kinda similar to hidden forum posts that are permanently removed only after being checked by a moderator).
It kind of is, but only after appealing.
The problem with that is that you have to change the name to keep playing, while waiting for moderation.
Iâm not sure if there were false flag cases where people got their original name restored.
Also I think getting the name checked shouldnât be something you have to appeal for. Thatâs guilty until proven innocent.
I agree, from player perspective it sucks, but I can see how itâs a good design from busyness pov.
Yeah, it also depends on how many falsely flagged names there are. I would assume thereâs a lot of cases, where players just agree that the name was not okay and donât appeal.
i remonde use a name gengenerator site to pick a rp name so u dont get flaged .
Self i have never had this issue.
In what world does a manual report get approved within 20 seconds?
Every report system Blizzard has that can be spammed has an automated component to it, be it the silence feature, the forum flag, you name it. I see no reason why name reports would be any different.
It was not, that system is automated. There is literal evidence of it being automated and it being the new silence system, not the squelch system. But as I said in an earlier post, iâve done that very argument a dozen times, I donât have the energy to do it again.
Personaly i think itâs auto âcorrectâ with some main filters ⊠like my name .
The way i write it ⊠itâs accepted , now leave out the accent ⊠arsenique ⊠and bam ⊠not allowed
Pft, I remember a lovely Draenei Shaman named Peacebloom and she got flagged for a name change. I mean why? Itâs a brilliant name! If itâs automated that just makes me very sad.
They really need to update that policy as Discoinferno seems like a really good name for a mechagnome fire mage that like to boogie.
