Ok - not played in years - thought I would give it another go with the Timewalking addition, however - something has changed with the audio, it seems quiet - its like the game has lost all its atmosphere.
I can hardly hear anyone elses sound effects, or any sound effects in the game. People can be attacking something right next to me and I can hardly hear them. It NEVER used to be like this, it sucks. It’s not just other players sound effects, in game NPC sound effects seem to be low. I can hear the music loud, ambient sounds fine - just the battle sound effects.
I’ve updated all my drivers, I’ve reset WoW settings, removed all add-ons/configurations. Sound is fine in Windows and all other games.
So, has there been any spacial / positional audio changes since BFA?
I won’t play like this, all the atmosphere has been sucked out the game.
The short answer is, YES, there have been spacial/positional audio changes since you last played.
I was away from the game from season 3 of Shadowlands until season 3 of Dragonflight and noticed big audio differences upon my return (which I am not a fan of)
I haven’t completely fixed the audio to my own satisfaction yet but you might want to play with the Distance Filtering and Reverb settings:
Esc > Game Menu > Options > Audio (under the ‘System’ heading) > Distance Filtering
Esc > Game Menu > Options > Audio (under the ‘System’ heading) > Enable Reverb
If you keep the Distance Filtering on, it makes a lot of difference whether or not your character is facing the source of the sound as to whether you can hear it clearly or not.
Reverb, in my experience so far, mostly affects audio in caves and places like that, so probably isn’t going to make that much difference to your issue.
Do you think the issue you are experiencing could be helped by that or do you think you have a more specific bug that is just affecting your own WoW installation?
