Havoc dh 100% dodge chance is back (kinda)

https://ptr.wowhead.com/news/class-and-spell-changes-for-patch-9-1-ptr-build-38394-havoc-dh-single-target-321982

Havoc is receiving a lot of buffs in the latest patchnote of the ptr but one highlight is the new pvp talent they are receiving called Glimpse. With that pvp talent when a havoc dh uses vengenful retreat they become immune to loss of control effects and receive a 75% damage reduction. Those two effects stay active until the dh touches the ground.

In effect this is a nerfed version of the 100% dodge dh used to have when using blade dance. This was a very disliked ability due to the fact that it allowed havoc dh to randomly dodge stuns or big hitting abilities while doing their normal dps rotation. I say nerfed because it doesn’t actually make the dh “immune to everything” like the 100% dodge chance did, making them simply immune to cc and receiving a large damage reduction.

Both are still very good effects but they are now tied to a specific ability instead of baked into the dps rotation, and since the buffs only last for the time the dh is flying in the air (so basically one or two seconds) it means the dh has to actively read his opponent and know he going to try and cc him to dodge it. A playstyle pushed further by the fact tht vengeful retreat isn’t on the gcd.

Personnaly I think it is a very good change. Havoc has struggled with survivability in pvp ever since the massives nerfs in the BFA to SL transition. This new pvp talent helps with this issue by reworking one of the classic dh abilities in a more fair and balanced way. It was always the mark of a very skill havoc player to use the blade dance dodge to avoid ccs on purpose, which will be possible to do with this ability but at the same time dh wont be able to randomly dodge ccs just because they got lucky. This just play very well into the fantasy of what a havoc dh should be, an aggressive and mobile fighter which rewards quick reaction time. The fact that it is a pvp talent also fixes another issue the old blade dance dodge had which was that in pve it could be used to cheese certain mechanics.

What do you think ?

It’s better than the DB one, but ultimately it suffers the same issue where a single DH ability just has so much piled onto it.

VR with this talent will:
Remove snares
Deal damage
Prevent CC
Grant damage reduction
Gap close / escape depending on the direction.
Slow enemies it hits

And possibly grants Fury too if you take Momentum.

All of that in 1 GCD is just dumb. It’s less dumb than Blade Dance dodge, but it’s still dumb.

They’re designing DH in a way that no matter what ability you press you’ll get something out of it.

If a Warlock casts AOE fear with no one around they wasted a GCD. Or uses their Portal when no one is around then they just wasted their CD.
If a DH uses their gap closer when no one is even on them they still get stuff out of it.

It’s just mind numbing fool proof game play.

That talent looks like crap. Wait a second does it break fear?

It doesn’t break fear, but if you get hit with a fear mid vault you’ll be immune.

Does it break snare or slow? Doesn’t “immune” mean it removes those effects?

You wont be able to use the ability to do all of this at once. VR still has a cd, so if you use it to generate fury/gap close/slow ennemies it wont be available to dodge a stun.

You’re immune when you vault, but you can’t case vault if you’re feared / stunned.
VR breaks all snares by default, the talent does nothing for that.
Snares include slows so it cancels their effect. e.g. Frostbolt, CoC, Hamstring.

If a Warrior is on you and you VR to escape then the Warrior has quick reactions and Stormbolts you, you’re immune. So it double dips there.

But it’s not about doing a lot all at once, it’s the fact that it can be used in pretty much any scenario and you’ll get something out of it. You can blindly button mash it and probably be rewarded.

Havoc is like wine, it always gets better al the end.

With this talent being in the game why would you ever try and stormbolt a dh in the middle of VR’s backflip though ?

If a dh just randomly VR in the middle of the fight his opponent just has to wait 1 sec for him to land and he can attack him again. Randomly pressing VR wont do the dh any good if there is nothing incoming to dodge, and if the ennemy is smart enough to not throw their cc while he is flying through the air.
