HAVOC DH scaling at late expansion

I ask out of curiosity how well we scale to the end of expansion. I wana do high keys as a melee (tried ranged dps but just dont like it). Should i just reroll to rogue or we gonna be good at 9.1-9.2 ?

Itā€™s impossible to predict at this point without knowing what sort of system will they implement in the future that will allow dhs to ā€œscale wellā€. In bfa for example it was corruption but that was just one thing that made dh be ā€œmetaā€ for m+ keys. The way things look this expansion, if you have a group of friends to push keys with, youā€™ll be fine. If you donā€™t and are looking to pug, the spec is unfortunately not gonna make your life easier. Being target capped, having nerfed survivability from bfa to sl and starting the expansion as a very mediocre spec at best ruined the overall image in the eyes of the community and that matters the most in pugs.

i advise against going havoc. we donā€™t know how it will turn out but imo havoc is on the sh1t list for the foreseeable future.
i honestly donā€™t see any reason to play melee in m+ currently. if you really want to iā€™d take a look at monk/rogue. monk for pugsā€¦and rogue if you got premade pushing higher.
i saw people actively searching for WWā€™s. never anything else from melee though, rarely a rogue.

They are adding more borrowed powers each patch-expanding soulbinds/conduits and in 9.1 new gemslot effect, DH scales Exponentialy with borrowed power as we have seen in Legion or Bfa.

Thx guys for the information. I will stick to my dh but I gear up a rogue for backup, if anything would happen to my dh

havoc is fine in m+, Iā€™d actually say pcompetative dmg wise. the issue is that the tank of choice is vdh, which means basically outside of dmg alone, youā€™re not bringing much to the comp since even the ā€˜I have magic buffā€™ is covered. there are many other dps that do good or excellent dmg and have 2min cds which line up well with pulls in keys (ww/mage/ele/hunt/boom). likewise you donā€™t bring taunt pet (ele/druid) to help your tank and you have less utility than a monk/rogue (ring/blind/sap/shroud etc). dh is more than capable of doing high keys, and people do though. there is a lot of doom on these forums, some warranted, some less so. but there are demon hunters doing +25 keys, so saying theyā€™re ā€˜mediocreā€™ or ā€˜badā€™ in keys is kinda troll. its their st dmg thats the bad part of the spec, not their aoe capabilities.
dh tends to scale with borrowed power, so there is potential in new legendaries and the possibility of double legendaries making us very good. in the meantime we live in hope that they quit doing nothing or buffing aoe and do something about our st dmg like the community has asked for years.

most important tip: play what you enjoy. if you enjoy both, cool, maybe youā€™ll have more luck with rogue. otherwise thereā€™s honestly no real reason to bail on dh. if you maximise your play on dh you can still compete or beat people anyway.

Thx for the complete reply. Our 4 min cd is a joke (i mean not the meta, the 4 min cd  ).
I saw the ST buff but i dont think it will be enough cause they nerfed the UBC. Technically thatā€™s not a buff just an adjust.
My main problem is the Q time, like as u said noone want 2 DH in a group (1 dps 1 tank) and everyone running DH tank.
Everyone says do your own key, but even the player i invited have 1700-1800 rio cant use the interrupts, stuns and dying in fireā€¦ then blame the healer and leave.
Thats my adventure in " do your own keys" 7 out of 10 times.

If you take a look on the DH 9.1 buffsā€¦ + the new gear level we will getā€¦ We can sayā€¦ Yep, we will be in a better position than 9.0.5
DH scale very well with gear + 15 % dmg buff to 3 ST skills +
Blizzard will do some changes for melee players in m+
I would say, you can easy stay DHā€¦
Rouge isnā€™t a bad choice either

Everyone gets better gear with 9.1, not just dhs. The st buffs are nice but donā€™t change anythin when it comes to community perception. If you launch an expansion with a class/spec in a scuffed state, that stigma will follow said class/spec to the end of the expac. For raids, there will always be better st dmg specs, for m+ thereā€™s still uncapped aoe specs which also happen to have half the cd on their big cd abilities and for pvpā€¦well, i donā€™t have to explain that part, you can just go into an arena and see for yourself. The spec might get fixed next expansion but pretending some new system or borrowed power will make havoc pump again starting with 9.1 is not normal.
