HD textures for retail?

When will you allow us to use the Cata HD textures on retail Blizzard?

Can you give us an example as to what you’re referring too?

I presume it’s this

Ah ok!

To be honest, I would rather they work on optimizing the game engine before working on HD textures.

I doubt that’s going to happen, all hands are set to work on Midnight and Last Titan expansions right now, anything that can be spared is going to be used for bug-fixing current client stuff, if we get LUCKY however, they might re-add the scrapped upscaled textures in Midnight or Last Titan expansions, but we’ll see, the game is already quite big as it is, I don’t see the need to add another 30-90 gigabytes(assuming they upgrade all assets, and not just up to Cata)

we are in direct competition with call of duty file size .we should hit 200 gb as soon as possible on wow retail xD

Looks like what GPU sharpen filter already does?

Pretty sure we got HD back in WoD when we got the races graphically updated.

Yeah, I knew we had some graphical update a long time ago. It’s why I said we need them to work on the game engine to make it handle older systems betters and also to find out why it is so CPU hungry compared to other games, which are visually better etc.

Frankensteinian coding layered upon each other with poor coding practices [if you can recall the bag issue why the default backpack hasn’t been increased, it caused problems elsewhere]…

The game’s old. It needs a new engine to focus on optimization, but that won’t happen because it’ll cost a lot and take a long time to do, taking resources away from other projects, which isn’t worth it from a company’s standpoint.

Yeah, I remember that >_<

The textures that exist in that version don’t necessarily exist in WoW Retail anymore if they were exchanged by others. Alongside that, I use those HD textures on the Cata version and they are only slightly better. Feels more like a sharpness filter slapped on top of it than actual HD textures.

I rather have a revamp of all old stuff to at least WoD quality.

You mean it’s not HD already?

It’s not the same as ‘other’ games, you should not compare them.

MMOs exchange a vast amounts of data which has to be processed via the CPU and then you will have addons too. WoW is a mathematically complicated games and multiply that with dozens of players.

Show me one COMPARABLE game and you’ll find similar issues.

Minesweeper!

Throne and Liberty is a mmo that is kinda very impressive allowing 100s players
on screen in large pvp battles (even thou it went south cause p2w and pvp).

While in wow you need a powerful cpu to walk thru dornogal with lots people standing
still without frames tanking lol

And a choice quote:

Becouse of all the players npcs and enemys the game is almost always cpu bottlenecked escpecially when many players are around at world bosses or other activities. Thats the reason why u dont get so much fps uplift when putting ur graphic settings down. U r cpu bottlenecked.

idk look fine to me and those I watched on twitch.
Point is when you scale that down to numbers shown on screen in wow
and people are not even moving, it still kinda silly lol

Also things like this does not help:

WoW is optimized to support low end systems. That’s a bottle-neck itself.

yeah even though the difference isn’t massive it would be really nice to have them.

it’s just strange how cata (now mop) has better textures while retail has better lighting and character models
