Hello, I want to put wow on new SSD disk but have only 50gb free on it while wow files take about 60gb. Can I remove data files for movies? I think it takes a huge amount of space.
Nope. The in-game movies are not in any seperate files you could easily remove without affecting other stuff (and editing the files is no-no).
And even if you could, it is unlikely the movies take more than few hunded megabytes so removing them would not reduce the size enough to fit to 50 GB.
Also, BfA requires least 70 GB of free space so during patching it will almost certainly use more than 60 GB of space.
TL;DR buy a larger SSD.
How big is the SSD? New and already full?
I think Shadowlands will require up to 90GB.
There would be no way to make the install file size smaller im afraid.
There should be. It’s 2020 and we have an installer that is on the level of microsoft windows update.
I mean, 60gb download isn’t fun when you have to reinstall everything because the game went banana. An option to avoid downloading tons of old cutscene that i’ll never watch is much needed.
You can just keep a backup of the WoW folder and your good.
I mean it’s 2020 and 60GB is nothing, SSDs are super cheap now too.
Yes everything is possible but i should not have the need of a full backup of a game just in case because the download for it even on a 200mbit connection is 6+ hrs.
200MBit and it takes 6h? Then you should call your ISP and complain, because i’m getting full speed from the launcher.
Indeed, if you get that slow download speeds there is something wrong. 60 GB at 200 Mbits should take about 40 minutes if going max speed whole time so let’s call it 1 hour.
And if you need to constantly repair or reinstall WoW there is probably something else wrong as well. My installation was originally installed back in Legion or WoD (can’t remember exactly) and I haven’t needed to do full reinstall, even when moving to a new computer as I have been always able to copy the installation files over.
But I think this thread has served it’s purpose and OP got the reply even if it is not what they might want.
have you looked into uninstalling things you no longer need, emptying your trashcan/recycle bin and using disk cleanup?
(assuming windows10 if thats what you are using, still lets users use disk cleanup lol)
i once got back 10gig of space from just doing those things.
(i know its not exactly what you asked for, but if its just the space you are short of, it might help you skim that last bit of extra space)
Some ISP’s in the UK, traffic shape bittorrent traffic, and unfortunately, I believe that the Blizzard Installer uses the Bittorrent Protocol to speed up downloads.
This means that clients of a certain British ISP that leases its name from a certain Ricky Branson (I know he has nothing to do with the operation of it, he just leases the brand name to them), get abysmal download speeds where the Bittorrent protocol is used.
