Healer or Dps for maining character

Helloo.I`am returning to wow .I want to main 1 class for: m+ 15,Raid hc.And Story/World content.Which one will be better or more funny healer or dps?I do all with pugs

If you’re pugging m+, it’s probably going to be faster as healer. Otherwise fun is subjective, try both and see what fits. There was a class trial at some point, not sure if it’s still there.

M+ and raiding is much easier as a healer as there is a lot more demand for it.

Open world sucks tho. Unless you are a paladin.

When you ask something like what is more fun healing vs DPS-ing you may as well be asking strangers what your favorite colour should be.

I don’t like healing that much. Some people love it.

Healer has quicker queues. DPS, depending on the spec, is a much more relaxing time. What you prefer given that context is on you.

Obvious solution is to pick a class that can do both, like Paladin, and apply to M+ as both roles and naturally come to your own conclusion.

Play what you enjoy.

Shaman will give you choice of melee, ranged or healer so you can try all three. Elemental and Resto are popular in raids and mythic+ so either would be fine, enhanced is the unloved ginger step child. If you definitely prefer being in the middle of things as melee/healer then paladin.

Good news! Every healer has a DPS spec, you don’t have to do open world or solo content as healer if you don’t want to. For healers for whom their primary stat is shared between DPS and healer, pretty much all you need to do is swap specs. For others, you may need an extra weapon or so, perhaps trinkets, but you can still get by with just a random weapon for DPS spec.

For open world content, you don’t need the most appropriate gear, your healer gear in DPS spec will do just fine.

To answer OP’s question: play a druid. Can perform all roles, and performs reasonably in all of them. You can heal as resto, and if you don’t like it, you can quite easily switch to boomkin too.

As healer will be easier to find group for m+?

compared to dps? yes, very much so.

I can’t tell how, but I’ve got less dps in elemental than I do in restoration. My lava burst hits 4k in ele and 5k in resto, while my chain lightning deals 1.4k damage to each target in ele, but 2.1k in restoration. Of course I do not have earth shock or earthquake, but nothing live so long that I could generate enough mealstrom for it anyways.

Healer pros:

  • easier to find groups
  • easily accepted
  • more health

Healer cons:

  • more responsibility

DPS pros:

  • less responsibility. (Example, instead of focusing on keeping everyone alive, you just try to keep yourself alive.)

  • more damage

DPS cons:

  • More waiting time.

Ultimately, wow always needs more healers and Tanks. So if that’s your choice, it would be great for the community. You just gotta be geared, buffed, and stay till the raid is over. (As the song below says)

As others said healing.

You might wanna check out info on all the healer specs first as some are more straight forward than others to play.

Same if you pick dps.

In the end play what you enjoy the most.

No clue either, I don’t play shaman. I do know that I do more damage as feral or boomkin than as resto, tho. Sometimes I do go as resto in open world, when soloing stuff like the Colossus in the Maw, but for most things, I just go feral and rip and bite away for twice the DPS.

as a healer main, i d argue this point. in my opinion, the responsibility just shifts. as a dps you have to watch out for interrupts, cc and keep your damage/rotation up besides dodging stuff. maybe even taking care of explosives etc.

missing an interrupt/s can be just as bad as insufficient healing. sure, you could say that you have two other dps who can help you with that but you have to time this as well because if everyone interrupts at once and you dont have an interrupt free for the next ability.

i have a lot of respect for dps who are able to do everything i have listed above because for me, it doesnt come easy at all. healers have it a bit easier because we “just” have to keep the team alive and it becomes way easier if dps interrupt etc., not to mention heal addons and mouse overs.

just like with a bad or good healer, runs can be night and day with good or bad dps. so i dont really share the sentiment of dps having less responsibility because everyone has pretty much a more or less equal amount of responsibility in m+, its just different for every role.

That’s true, but it’s more or less the same for healers. We still need to interrupt(resto shaman at least), dodge stuff, cc, kill explosives and do damage, while at the same time keep everyone alive, so I’d argue that it’s a little more engaging.

more engaging, maybe - but this doesnt mean that dps have less responsibility. if everyone does their job well, healer is one of the easier roles in my opinion. if everyone is dodging stuff, interrupts and kills the explosives, you dont have to heal that much and can concentrate on other things like damage.

by not interrupting and whatnot dps can make a healers life hell. but if things are kept in check, its fairly easy as a healer.

i mean, for example, if its bursting dps could just burst packs down because its not their responsibility to keep the team alive. but in order to ensure the survival of the group, they sometimes have to hold back and watch out for stacks etc. thats responsibility as well.
