Healing and tank specs should have 'pet's

The whole levelling experience for a healer just doesn’t give them any sense of what their spec should be. then when it comes to dungeons, nobody has had the opportunity to develop the skills that are necessary.
same for tanks.

general gameplay for these specs should revolve around having to heal in a wide variety of situations. therefore, healer spec should have a simple pet that does the fighting, and the healer themselves must heal their pet to keep it alive while it kills the mob.
Tank spec must keep the mobs attention while their pet attacks and their pet also heals them. it should be this way constantly through the levelling experience and if they don’t keep aggro, their pet dies. then they can’t generate dps and won’t be getting healed and will die.

I think this really should be a thing because how else are we going to get a game experience that is consistent and we really need more people willing and able to be good tanks and healers in dungeons.

edit: I should iterate… I mean a simple pet, that would be more an extension of yourself, rather than a separate entity. no management required.

Yeah while you are at it. Why don’t you throw in Kul’tiran Demon Hunter and Draenei Druids.

I would love that.

I was being sarcastic about those, but okay   :unamused:

I get what you’re going for, as I’m currently levelling a holy paladin via questing and my key binds are really awkward as I’m setting them up for healing but in reality while levelling I’m just doing damage and occasionally throwing out a heal or two.

On the other hand, I hate managing pets so that sounds terrible to me! Dungeons are an option for levelling, so it’s not as if there isn’t already an option for levelling while actually playing your spec. It would be nice if other players were more tolerant towards those who are learning a new role in groups rather than trying to rush through. Perhaps there could be an alternative queue option for people learning or just wanting to be more chilled? I know I’d absolutely prefer to queue for chilled levelling dungeons and help other players, despite not being in a new role myself. I wonder if enough others would feel the same to make something like that a worthwhile option?

A pet for a healer, ok sure why not or just make the current one stay longer or permanent, but for a tank? Nah they dont need one imo.
But if u do really want a tank with pet, then just give hunters a tank spec :stuck_out_tongue:

This hypothetical pet wouldn’t require management in the way a hunter’s pet or a warlock pet would.
it would be more an extension of the player, rather than it’s own entity.
Think about the monk ability storm earth and fire

They already got those in the Tenacity pet family. And there are several pet types in that family.

I think that’s pretty plausible to be honest. why not have a tank or healer spec for hunter?
I think out of all classes, that is perhaps most suited to being a hybrid.

Yeah but I meant a total new spec

Ohhhh. Well idk how they could do that, unless they could make some completely new pet abilitys besides a new family of pet types. That wasn’t gonna be a copy and paste of old family pet trees.

That’s quite an interesting idea. It would no doubt require some serious thought as to how to implement but in theory I like the idea

I love to heal and have all the healing classes at max level. In some cases (Druid, Shaman & Monk) I enjoy the DPS specs and had no problem levelling in DPS spec while doing dungeons as a healer, but for Paladin and Priest I really like their healing specs but not their DPS. I would much rather have levelled as holy in both rather than Ret/Shadow, if it was a more viable choice.

Also as you say, it might help persuade more folks to play tanks/healers as they level if they felt more confident in the associated mechanics.

Just give hunters a tank or healing spec and call it day.

A pet class should keep its uniqueness, so I disagree with giving other classes pets too (even simple ones). Battle pets are quite enough!

I’d rather see ‘special quests’ for such roles. Where you play with NPCs to ‘learn your role’.

If you’ve played a warlock or hunter you might not wish pets upon other classes

Pet AI is already bad enough. I don’t want to wipe time and again because the pet doesn’t soak X ability, or taunt swap Y ability correctly.

currently we have a status quo where people are afraid to be a healer for a number of reasons. first there is a matter of confidence. second there is the way other players treat healers. healers are often abused because they haven’t had the experience needed to be a good healer.
As a DPS spec, I am well accustomed to queueing for a very long time. I think this could be redressed if more people were confident to be a healer.

and tanks too of course.

This ‘pet’ could simply be some kind of artificial construct, like a ghost, and wouldn’t really take away from pet classes.

Tanks don’t have a problem - just mass pull and aoe everything down. Leveling as healer is more or less masochism.

Well, like I said: I’d rather see special quests then for specs with a certain role.
Where you learn to ‘play as that role’ alongside NPCs.

Ooo, like an Exiles Reach-style area where you learn to play your role, or even more specifically your chosen spec so you could learn to tank or heal? Sounds brilliant! :+1:
