Heirloom Sets Availability and Suggestions

Hello Folks,

I was recently trying to guide my partner, who is new to WoW, through buying some Heirloom Sets for their new characters to help them enjoy the timewalking content. Unfortunately they weren’t able to buy more than a few core pieces due to several of them being locked behind the Guild Vendor (Legs, Helm ect). This has left them with only a few pieces of Heirloom Gear that don’t make much difference to their gameplay.

Personally I find Heirloom Sets extremely useful for leveling Alt/RP characters and just enjoying the timewalking content. Im lucky to have gotten most of the Guild Vendor pieces in the past but for those new to the game or those who aren’t keen on joining a Guild for whatever reason ( I personally prefer not to) it does create a barrier for them to access what is essentially an excellent system for Solo play (level scaling gear you can equip, transmog and not have to worry about while you explore the world).

Personally I would love to see Heirlooms changed to make them more readily available to everyone as full sets. Here are my suggestions:

  1. Combine each Heirloom Set (Dreadweave for example) into a bundle item like the old PVP Cosmetic Sets, to allow players to conveniently acquire all the core pieces in once click so they don’t miss any. Also do the same with the upgrade casings, so they upgrade a ‘full set’ through the level brackets, rather than individual pieces.
  2. A much more controversial approach: make Heirloom sets available on the Battle.Net store as a one off purchase, equal to a Cosmetic in price, in addition to the suggestion above. For example a full plate wearer set with all the melee weapons, a full cloth wearer set with all the spellcaster weapons ect. I don’t expect this suggestion to be used, but i just wanted to voice it to provide an alternative. This would provide an easy way for people who don’t have time or don’t want to grind tonnes of gold to acquire them, and shouldn’t affect the balance of the endgame content with it only working 1- 60.

Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to improve the Heirloom System? Personally im a big fan of it and just want to see it become more easily accessible.

I think most people would agree that heirlooms actually ruin the leveling experience. Say a new player completes a quest, or a dungeon, and the items theyve looted have no meaning what so ever. Kind of partially ruins their first mmo experience imo.

I personally would prefer if they round out the pieces so every slot can have a heirloom piece on it, and then put each piece to obtain from different activities.

You can get a questline for the armor sets, or it can be tied to an achievement. Trinkets you can get from doing specific, dungeon related achievements and so on.

These days heirlooms are an expensive convenience, but I do not think they should be available to new players. It is a system meant to help out alts after all.

It should not be available to new players at all in my opinion. It is a system meant for alts, after all.

I think they should prioritise making levelling a part of the game and not a part of the game we need to do to play the actual game

Need a whole shake up on the levelling experience chromie time was an attempt but definitely not a solution. Think it needs a new cata now, if that means some content becomes obsolete so be it.

By overhauling the levelling path they could also in turn make heirlooms obsolete and give us our gold back

This is not a controversial approach. Even with a guild full of unlocked everything, new players will buy heirlooms for gold. There isn’t any difference in purchasing it from the store as long as they keep the heirloom vendor for gold.
