I have not use the Blizzard Store since it moved to Fanatics, so I can’t comment on how that one works. I have used them in the past to send a plushie to a friend for their birthday. It cost me more to get the item to my friend than the item cost itself. I’ve never used the Store since. The biggest cost was what the courier charged to get delivered.
Americans have this habit of making price listings not including VAT or other similar taxes. I’m used to looking at an item’s price and I know that’s what I’m paying, maybe paying shipping separately, that’s fine. But Americans, man… they do not include any taxes in the listing price.
It’s not about Blizz really, it’s about how Americans do trade, vs how Europeans do trade and how importing things and international trade works.
Governments want to collect money at every point - you have to pay VAT for that item, which depending on where you live is between $30 and $60, and you have to pay import fees on top of that.
Probably some sort of tax. I live in the middle east and I don’t have anything like that when going to checkout. The US gear store is actually cheaper than the EU one for me.
This should be stickied to the top of the forums. Well found.
I believe, although I could be wrong, that each state sets it’s own VAT level so VAT cannot be calculated until the shipping address is filled in and then the relevant VAT is applied at that point. In most of the Middle East the VAT is negligible, I recall being in the UAE not that long ago when they introduced VAT and a lot of good shot up in cost.
Sales in Europe VAT tends to be charged at point of sale and can then be reclaimed if you are not subject to VAT. As a seafarer if I am outside of UK when I make an Amazon.co.uk purchase I can claim the VAT back should I choose to do so although I am then subject to import duties should HMC actually check my baggage on return to the UK.
so you’ll go up to pay for something that says $20, but then they add a sales tax on at the point of sale and it costs $24 or whatever (varies from state to state)
instead of just listing the time at the price inc. tax like normal people would
I live in Israel, our VAT is 17% for most stuff. Though orders from abroad that cost less than $75 are VAT free. Also the time I bought something that meets the criteria from ebay I had to pay that separately once the item has reached the country, not as part of the initial purchase.
