Hello Everyone
Recently my little 3 year old caught his dad playing world of warcraft and being such a wonderful dad I popped him on my knee and took my character down dalaran sewers and had him help me clear out the rat problem.
He pressed the keybinds I used the mouse.
This has been going on for a couple weeks now.
This week as a treat for getting ready for nursery (breakfast, teeth brushed, and dressed) I said he could play some of daddy’s computer game…
It was going ok but yesterday I discovered that dalaran sewers is not always safe…
So we went on an adventure.
I rode a horse over to a farm in Elwyn forest.
Flew a griffon over to the docks in stormwind to see the boats.
His favourite: use the deep run tram to ride the train.
“His face when it went under water, nearly made me cry with joy.”
He has asked to go to the fair so I am looking forward to darkmoon opening…
But until then I need your help.
In this world of "war"craft where else can I show my son some fun safe stuff
Can you help a clueless dad out?
And yes yes, I do read to him and play outside and do kid stuff, just nice to do something I enjoy for once.

My daughter when she was small absolutely adored running around Silvermoon together with a kitten, and exploring Mulgore. The latter is wonderfully peaceful, including the music. If he’s more into snow, the area around Ironforge is wonderful too, you can climb snowy mountains, find camp sites and such. Hunting eggs and being turned into a bunny with Noblegarden soon might be a hit!
It was really fun to see my daughter explore, I fully understand your joy in sharing
I hope you get many great recommendations!

For the love of god. Don’t let your kids play WoW.

This reminded me of the time I showed my niece the otter and ducks in the Tuskar village.
I target the duck to wave hello, and then she pressed something on the keyboard and ended up killing the duck lmao. Luckily she didn’t realize what she did. I hope.
Be careful with introducing a toddler to wow. I remember I started Warcraft around the age of 11 or 12 and the forsaken starting zone always gave me nightmares.

Hm, how about Teldrassil or Ashenvale? Those areas are quite serene and I bet he’d love the music too.
Loch Modan with the dwarves is another of my favorites.
Or if it’s any snowy outside, then Winterspring.
And of course, Silvermoon/Eversong Woods if you have a belf.
The last such zone I can safely recommend is Grizzly Hills.

Dragonriding! Your son can push the button to make the dragon do twirlies in the sky. Go on adventures flying to different parts of the dragon isles and landing in safe areas, like Iskaara or go watch the rock climbers at the Dragonscale Basecamp. Go throw snowballs with the Tuskarr children located on a remote island south-west of Iskaara. If you hop on the giant turtle boat it will take you past it which is how I discovered it.

Don’t let the cartoonish art style fool you, WoW is NOT a game for younger children. Violence and death is part of the game as much as it is part of the lore, and this is reflected everywhere in some extent.
Pet Battling around Teldrassil/Dun Morogh/Loch Modan/Elwynn Forest might be something to consider.

My 3.5 year old boy LOVES opening word and typing. Then we select some words and change its colors. I know it’s not WOW related, but also pretty fun to do.
As for WOW: maybe battle pets would be fun? Not sure at what age kids get into pokemon these days, but I see a lot of them with cards around here.

Any of the city hubs, really. Avoid Goldshire though.
Maybe make a Night Elf and walk through the big tree? It’s mostly full of non-aggressive mobs.

I’m gonna do you a solid and tell you to stop putting your 3 year old in front of a computer screen or even a smart phone.

I really appreciate the advice.
And I 100% understand where your coming from.
However I have decided in my wisdom that 10mins before school spending some time with a happy father figure will do him more in the end, learning that dad’s spend time with there kids.
Having him ready for school quickly means I am less stressed and makes for a happier home.
To be very clear as you do seem to care for my child also, other then the 10mins with me in the morning my little boy gets zero other screen time as he goes to nursery till 3 comes home and we play more 80s toys (micro machines, snakes and ladders, puzzles, drawing) then at 5 it’s time for dinner and then bath and bed.
I am certain that is far less screen time then most kids and adults.
… I’m not gonna buy him a tablet and headphones to sit quietly in the corner until he at least 4. I’m responsible

Take him outside to make dens and climb trees and all that stuff as well otherwise he is gonna be some obese overweight nerd addicted to computer games with no social skills.
Trust me, I know. I got addicted age 4 to sonic the hedgehog.
EDIT Oh someone else already kinda said this sorry only read first post

At least teach him how to climb and sit in a tree. Then at least he can read a book or watch a video out in the fresh air.
Just not too high up though!

I can’t speak out of having children, but I’ve been playing the game since I was 7 years old, and exploring Ashenvale, Teldrassil, and Darkshore was incredible when I first started playing. It was really immersive to the fantasy and I’ve had incredible memories of it since then.

Pet Battling might be a little complicated for a 3-year-old, but you can certainly try them, and show him how to summon different pets. Pet battes in the starting areas feature only single pet opponents, so maybe.
I’ve heard that Fishing is for some reason attractive to very young children. Stormwind and Darnassus have plenty of spots.
There’s a path up to Highmountain Peak that starts at … uh … Highmountain 48.48 74.89. There are no hostile mobs all the way to the Peak, and I always thought the designers did a great job on it. You can fall off the sides though, so maybe accompany him.
I also second Teldrassil and Darnassus.

Every parent is different. Some will demonise you for spending time with your kid in front of a screen and some will condone it.
As someone who has kids I speak for myself but putting them in front of a screen and playing with them can be good fun to start with they will develop an addiction towards it, and 10 minutes can turn into longer and longer of periods of time. But if you’re doing other activities with your kid like climbing trees, going swimming, building Lego etc and the computer time is used to reward instead of another form of parenting then you should be ok.
I would turn PvP off when the youngling is playing. Try taking him to the Dino island can’t remember the name. That why it is also educational for them aswell as fun
