Help a new Tank out?

So I decided to try tanking, I have only got upto Mythic 5 and I seemed to be taking a fair bit of damage, I and using the Fiery Brand build with legendary to stay alive and I generally use Fiery brand on the groups that are going to hurt, pop up IA an DS, I tend to save FD for times I dont have FB ready for the heavier hitting groups or if things get sticky.

My question, Should I focus on Versatility for all gear? or Does it not matter if all my gear has Versatility on? I am currently going Haste>Versa>Crit/Mastery I will pretty much only be doing Mythic+ as tank and solo content.

I mained VDH last patch and it’s more or less the same as now. I prefer versa>haste on gear, although haste>versa is good too. Other than that I think you should be fine doing +5 keys with your itemlevel. At times your HP will spike up and down on VDH. It’s normal, just like on BDK. Also you don’t need to out of your way and only focus on versatility. If an armor piece drops and it’s 10 itemlevels up but has Mastery>Crit, I would still use it (unless it’s ring or neck).

It’s hard to be more specific without having seen you play, but one mistake that is quite common is sitting on cooldowns in case you might need them, instead of just using stuff as soon as it’s ready. I’m not saying to pop meta on 2 mobs, but in most cases you have something ready for most pulls. Instead of saving Fel Dev when you’re about to die, use it early to avoid getting low on HP in the first place.
If you have nothing available except for demon spikes, just do a smaller pull and for the next pack you probably have both fel dev and fiery brand back up again. Also, if Last Resort is available you can afford to take some risks. It will also help you figure out how much you can take on.

Haste and Versa is far ahead of any other stat with Haste being your best defensive stat due to gcd and reduced cd on your mitigation. With that said you should like play a belt with Haste/Versa that is 220 if you have a 233 piece with Haste/Crit ilvl and main stat plays in aswell.

Also in this tier unlike the last its more likely we will acutally hit the soft caps that reduce the amount that we get from the stats so that will lower their value abit when you got a good amount of both.

Your haste is desperately low. Until you get into really high keys, the stat priority for vengeance is haste > versa > crit >mast. More haste feeds a cycle of quicker fractures, souls, soul cleaves and CD reduction on fiery brand. It gives us higher uptime on our mitigation as well as more self healing.

Use fel dev on pull whenever it’s off CD. If you feel the pack is too small, or the mobs too trivial, to use it, pull bigger. Brand just before the meta from fel dev drops off, and use spikes to cover you while brand spreads. Pull round meta, and try to keep it on CD as much as possible. If you’re taking too much damage through spikes, or if you run out of mitigation, get out of melee range. DH is the kiting tank. You’ll need to spend a lot of time running round to avoid getting hit.

Also farm De Other Side for the Hakkar scale trinket. It gives you another fantastic defensive CD.

It is not at all, versa is still the best overall tank stat not haste.

Stack versa as much as you like and you’re still dead without mitigation up. Haste increases mitigation uptime.

Not all tanks are identical. VDH is not guardian druid, and it’s foolish to assume stat priorities are the same.
