Help choosing main in Shadowlands

Could anyone with beta access that has done some thorough testing help me pick a main class for shadowlands?

I dont care a lot for numbers, they change a lot over the course of an expansion but I’d like to play a class that feels good to play in terms of rotation, not too complex, and that will be wanted in raids and decent in pvp.

Im leaning towards
DK
Hunter
Warlock
Rogue
Priest
Monk

What are your suggestions and why?

Subtlety Rogue is overpowered

Shadow Priest is also overpowered

While I appreciate the reply I’m not looking for overpowered, it can change over night. Are there any other upsides for these classes?

I know rogue has lots of defensive utilities which is why I have it on my list. Immunities is always great in raids. However I have always found the subtlety spec a bit too complex which is why im hesitating.

Like i posted in another topic. I used to have a hard time keeping a main. That is until i leveled a priest. Shadow is honestly one of the better and fun specs in the game. It is getting some changes in SL but it’s still fun.

I’d suggest trying one.

Lol in what world? Spriest has one of the worst single target damage, spriest excels in AOE and longer fights. And still they’re nowhere near “op”.

EDIT: and with the AOE cap, they will lose the only thing they really are good at. Priest is an overall good class with a fun kit if you don’t mind not being the best performer cookie cutter.

All evidence to the contrary. Blizzard is extremely slow to tune a class when it either over- or underperforms.

For BFA, shammies and demon hunters are a great example.

Man, you must choose for yourself, what’s hard about picking class? you don’t want OP classes so what’s the point of the topic? pick what you like if performance is not a thing for you, i’m tired of “tell me what i have to play and why” like someone cares geez.

The safest bet? Choose one of the classes that have 2 or 3 specs for the same role.

-Warlock
-Mage
-Rogue

These three are the best choices if you want to be consistently good. Because they have 3 specs for the same role (rogue for melee, mage and lock for ranged) the chances of all three specs being trash are slim to none (leaning towards none). One of those 3 specs will always be a tier 1 spec for given content type.

Decent choices (2 specs per role) are also:
-ranged Hunter
-DK
-Warrior

Don’t be tempted into maining Shadowpriest as this is the only dps Priest spec and if it’s nerfed to crapness in 9.1 then you’re in for a reroll.

Nobody tempted him lol, another poster said that Spriests are OP when they are far far from that.

OP asked for a class that has a fun rotation and a place in PvE and PvP which priest always had. Like i said when it comes to fun, i’d try a priest IF you don’t mind underperforming compared to others (Rogues, mages etc) because the classes u mentioned, esp mage, :sleepy:

However, if you’re aspiring to be one of the 1% just roll rogue.

Just make sure it’s BM. :wolf:  :bear:

Shaman :eyes:

Identify what is important to you, such as multiple DPS specs, the ability to tank, high mobility, self heals, group utility, etc etc.

Then identify how you play the game, for example are you just in it for the DPS logs, looking to get into mythic raiding, high end arena?

Example:
Ranged is important and so are multiple ranged DPS specs.
That eliminates everything but Mage, Hunter, and Warlock.

I love dungeons, BGs and casual raiding.
I like to focus on my DPS more than being useful to the group.
That eliminates hunter because hunters are often stuck with mechanics in raids.

Warlock vs Mage.
Mage is more mobile and does better in dungeons. Also provides less group utility so I can have a selfish playstyle.
Mage wins

If you end up with multiple then flip a coin or just make the decision and don’t look back.

Ultimately remember this is a game for fun. Nothing you do is set in stone, you’re allowed alts or to change your mind even a few weeks in to the expansion.

Its really hard to answer this question since everyone is different. I might find a spec really fun while someone else finds it really bad and the other way around.

Also damage/healer/tank or doesnt matter? Ranged/Melee?

Generally I think that pure damage dealers has a more fluid rotation to them most of the time while Hybrid tend to be more risky when it comes to how fun the specs are.

Also if its damage your after classes like Hunter/Warlock/Mage/Rogue offers three different specs that you can try out while other options like Monk/DK is more restricted.

I would go with Warlock or Rogue they are pretty much always in demand and they usally play quite well aswell in both PvE and PvP.

But what I really would do is hit the PTR and try out the different classes and how you think they feel, you can get a pretty good idea on just prepatch ptr how they will be in Shadowlands.

Play all of them. SL is extremely alt friendly.

And you base this on what? They are among the best dps currently in shadowlands.

That was the old philosophy behind the spec, can’t deny it.
But a recent change made it so DP does not overwrite itself but actually stacks its damage up kind of like Ignite from Fire mages, which will help boost that ST damage.

I also feel like ST SPriest has been fine ever since the void form rework in Legion.

AOE cap barely hurts SPriest.

Prepatch will introduce the class changes I believe, no need to have someone else tell you what you should play.

It does but the PTR can actually be really deceiving for people unaware of what awaits them in SL.

Level 50 classes are pretty incomplete and feel like they have something missing. That something is Covenants, Soul binds, conduits and Legendary effects.
In some cases such as Sub Rogue they’re even missing a core rotation spell which is locked until level 54 or something like that.

Still the OP hasn’t specified much other than a class that feels good to play and isn’t that bothered by numbers, only he can decide if a class feels good to him.
