so i’ve been checking out my alts after looking away from my mage. Whats the fastest way to get my alts up to speed?
Depends what your plan is with them.
Unlocking current/useful content
In order to unlock all the important bits of current content, such as having access to WQ/dailies everywhere, and having all the portals and such available, i’d say procedure is something like this (Horde POV):
- Make sure the alt has access to BFA world quests, if it doesn’t then visit the Ship in the Port of Zandalar, to get the turn-in-quest to unlock them.
- Start the Nazjatar questline, do all the intro quests until you’ve unlocked your base there and you get the Quest to go see Magni in Silithus, then go do that bit.
- Return to Nazjatar (you have portal access now) and do a couple more quests there until you’ve triggered the Mechagon-quest.
- Do do the Mechagon questline until you’ve unlocked the dailies there (now the teleport to Mechagon will also be available in Dazaralor).
- Do the whole Black Empire questline that should be available at the Great Seal, this is current content so you want to do all of it (or at least until you see the new dailies in Vale).
Those are the main things that come to mind. You probably also want the ability to teleport to the 3 Kul Tiras zones available on the Ship, if you hadn’t done that during leveling yet (or definitively at least one of the three).
Also just about every quest from Magni’s Heart room in Silithus is likely worth pursuing.
Gear
The content-unlocking steps above will get you access to the Neck and Cloak along the way.
You’ve likely got a whole bunch of ilvl ~415 gear token drops from your main(s) stored up somewhere, those are prime candidates as catch-up gear and can take care of the Head, Shoulder, Chest, Wrist, Hands, Waist, Legs and Feet. Fill in gaps with the 8.2 ilvl 385 gear tokens (also for sale in Nazjatar).
If you unlocked the Mechagon dailies then the single-quest that gives a 400+ trinket is available there as well, should you need it. The Nazjatar intro quests should’ve also given you a 380+ weapon along the way.
If, after all that, you’re still stuck with really crappy items (say ilvl under 350) then look for active WQ and/or emissary rewards that can fill that void, i usually find that’s only needed for Rings and Trinket(s).
Kill the Worldbosses that are currently active. Not just the 8.3 Uldum/Vale one, but the Nazjatar Boss, Warfront WQ Worldboss and maybe even regular BFA Zandalar/KulTiras Worldboss as well.
I usually find that a 120 alt that only played a couple hours at max level will find itself around ilvl 425 or so after these steps.
From here on, there is no real difference anymore between gearing this Alt, or your main, so whatever content you like. Mythic+, LFR, the 8.3 dailies, Visions, the Warfronts, the Emissary quests, …
Great post Sandsh this will definitely get you started, I find the best thing to do with alts is to not rush it too fast, they tend to catch up naturally over a few weeks of playing them little by little!
