HELP: locked character

Greetings Blizzard Overlords,

I come before you with a tale of great injustice.

I have upgraded my World of Warcraft account to Midnight, and with it, I was promised the sacred power of a level boost. Alas, when I attempted to bestow this blessing upon my Priest, Marshadow, I discovered that he has been… restrained.

The boost token refuses to cooperate. My Priest stands free in the world, yet shackled by unseen systems, unable to ascend. Truly tragic. Shakespeare would weep.

I humbly request that you release my character from whatever arcane bureaucracy currently binds him, so I may apply the boost and continue my heroic (and slightly irresponsible) adventures.

May your queues be short and your loot tables generous.

Yours in mild despair,
Marshadow
(An innocent Priest who just wants levels)

If it has been recently, the boost may take up to 24 hours before it may be used even on a previously locked toon.

If it has been past this time please open up a ticket for assistance.

Allow me to recount a saga spanning expansions, refunds, and questionable life choices.

This Priest is ancient. A relic. A being forged in the fires of level 70, back when dinosaurs roamed Azeroth and boosts were simpler creatures. Long ago, I refunded an older expansion, and in that dark ritual, I used its level-up token on this very character.

Fast forward to now: Midnight. A new dawn. A fresh, innocent level-up token enters my inventory—full of hope, potential, and absolutely refusing to acknowledge my Priest’s existence.

The system, it seems, has decided:
“Ah yes, this character has history. We do not speak of it.”

So now I stand here with:
• One very real Priest
• One very real brand-new boost token
• And one very unreal restriction that says “no, absolutely not”

I humbly request that you untangle whatever time-paradox, arcane flag, or forgotten database checkbox is currently haunting this character, and allow me to use the new boost token to finally unlock him from his bureaucratic prison.

Please free my Priest.
He has suffered enough.
I have suffered more.

Yours in eternal patch-note confusion,
Marshadow (Chronologically damaged, but boost-ready)

Hi there Marshaduw,

No worries at all, this can happen if there is a mismatch between the old and new boost being used, but a Game Master should be able to help you out if you make a ticket via the link on this page:

Just keep in mind the token would be consumed to unlock the characters in the state it was in when it was locked, and it won’t be boosted again.

I hope you can still figure something out that works for your situation!

Hello Support Forum,

I’m posting here because I’m stuck in a loop with a level boost issue and would appreciate clarification or escalation from someone familiar with legacy boost flags.

The problem

I purchased World of Warcraft: Midnight, which included a level 80 boost token. I want to apply this boost to my existing Priest, originally created and played at level 70 many expansions ago.

This character previously had a boost applied years ago during an older expansion that was later refunded. Since then, the character appears to have a permanent restriction that prevents any future boost from being applied — including the new, unused Midnight boost.

What I currently have

  • One valid, existing Priest (level 70)

  • One unused level 80 Midnight boost token

  • A system restriction that blocks the Priest from being boosted

GM response received

Here is the response I received from Blizzard Support:

“Greetings Champ,

This is Game Master Phisurrap, and I will be the one handling your request today.

I understand that you are unable to boost the character. Don’t worry, I will check it out for you.

After a closer look into your inquiry, I would like to inform you, could you please create a new character and boost it and come back so we could unlock your character.

I hope I was able to assist you today with your request. If you have any other concern, please feel free to contact us and we will be more than happy to assist you.

Until then, I wish you a great day.
Game Master Phisurrap

Why this doesn’t help

Creating and boosting a new character:

  • Consumes the Midnight boost token

  • Leaves my Priest still locked and still level 70

  • Results in a boosted character I don’t want, and an unchanged character I do want

Even if the Priest were “unlocked” afterward, the boost would already be gone.

What I’m actually asking for

I’m not trying to get an extra boost or bypass rules. I’m asking for one of two things:

  1. Removal or correction of the legacy boost/refund flag on my Priest so the existing Midnight boost can be applied
    or

  2. Confirmation that this character is permanently ineligible, so I can request a refund for Midnight

Additional context (short version)

This Priest is ancient. A relic from the era of level 70 caps and simpler boosts. Long ago, I used a boost tied to an expansion that was later refunded, and ever since, the system seems to have decided:

“This character has history. We do not speak of it.”

Now I’m left with a valid boost token that refuses to acknowledge my Priest’s existence.

If anyone from Blizzard Support can clarify whether legacy boost flags from refunded expansions can still be manually cleared, or if escalation to a senior GM is required, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for reading,
Marshadow

Merged your new thread with the update and reply you received from support already.

So the Game Master was asking you to consume the boost on another character which would then be deleted in exchange for having your old locked character unlocked.

As mentioned in my previous post this would indeed be the outcome, and if you want the full benefit of the new boost, you’d have to use it on a new character.

Thank you for the clarification.

To confirm, the proposed resolution is:

  • I must consume the WoW: Midnight level 80 boost on a different character

  • That character may then be deleted

  • In exchange, my original Priest would be “unlocked”

  • However, the level 80 boost itself would be permanently consumed and unavailable for that Priest

I understand that this is the intended outcome. However, this also confirms the core issue:

I am technically unable to apply the WoW: Midnight level 80 boost to the character I purchased it for.

Using the boost on a disposable character and deleting it does not provide the benefit of the product to my intended character. It results in:

  • Loss of the boost

  • An unchanged Priest (still level 70, only “unlocked”)

  • No way to apply the purchased level 80 boost to that character

As stated, if I want the full benefit of the boost, I must use it on a new character, not on my existing Priest. That means the product cannot be used as intended for my account.

Given this confirmation, I am no longer requesting a workaround.

I am requesting a refund for WoW: Midnight, as I am technically unable to use a core component of the purchase (the level 80 boost) on my existing character due to a legacy system restriction.

If refunds are not handled via the forum, please advise the correct path for escalation so this refund can be processed.

Thank you for the clarification and your time.

Marshadow

That’s correct, and I’m sorry to hear it means a refund in your case, but totally understand.

Refunds cannot be requested via the forums, but you can submit a ticket for assistance here.

Best of luck wherever your adventure leads next Marshadow, and I hope you’ll still be able to check out Midnight at some point anyway!

What I am struggling to understand is the reasoning behind this requirement.

If the system is capable of:

  • Consuming the Midnight boost

  • Unlocking the legacy-restricted Priest afterward

Then why is the boost not allowed to be applied directly to the Priest in the first place?

From a player perspective, both outcomes involve:

  • The same boost being consumed

  • The same character ultimately being eligible

The only difference is that the current method:

  • Forces the boost to be used on a character I do not want

  • Permanently removes my ability to apply that boost to the Priest

  • Results in a worse outcome for the player, despite the same backend changes occurring

This feels less like a technical necessity and more like a procedural limitation, and I would appreciate clarification on whether:

  • This is a hard technical restriction that cannot be overridden
    or

  • A policy rule designed to avoid manual boost application

If it is a hard technical limitation, then I am technically unable to use the WoW: Midnight boost on my intended character and would like to proceed with a refund.

If it is a policy limitation, I would appreciate escalation to determine whether an exception is possible in this case.

Thank you for helping clarify this.

Marshadow

You refunded a previous boost, and owe Blizzard one boost.
Hence the entire convulted way of fixing this.

The whole RP talk is kinda hard to discern and I applaud Tyrskorn from being able to decipher it all btw.
