hia, for quite a while now(not just laatest patch) my computer has been really slow and i cant figure out what the problem may be, here is what im experiencing:
- very slow load screens, often my character already goes to /afk before loadscreen is done
-specially in oribos but really whenever getting to a new area i can hardly move the first few minutes (just took 30 minutes to open vault on 2 characters with 2-4fps)
- in a raid at the first pull i will nearly lag out and whille have no troubles anymore for the rest of the raid after that
- when i go to taskmanager wow it shows wow using 94% memory
- addon memory ingame shows 256mb (dont know if this is much?)
- after being in an area for a while the fps goes up and is jumping between 20 and 60
ive ran a dxdiag thing and hope you guys can help me?
i know my pc isnt the greatest and dont really care about having high graphics and great fps but it should run better here then on my wifes 10yr old laptop and it did at first. i just want to be able to move around normally
im not sure how to add the dxdiag info… if i copypaste here its too many characters…
Without knowing the specs of your computer, this is an impossible question to answer.
I would suspect, from what you’re writing, that you’re running a machine that really hasn’t enough RAM and is running a conventional (and slow) HDD instead of a SSD.
If you post your PC specs, people can advise further.
i cant find how to post the full dxdiag log, but the first bit has my computer info:

i have windows and WoW running off SSD, and the rest on a conventional HDD
Thanks for posting this - it’s helpful indeed.
One thing that does ‘stand out’ is your memory amount. 8Gb is quite low by modern standards and the page file (swap file) is pretty large.
Additionally it looks to me as though your video card (the GTX1650) is taking some of your system memory for itself - nearly half of your 8Gb is being used as shared memory by the video card from what you’ve posted.
I would think this is almost certainly the issue and also why your swap file is so large.
If the swap file is located on your HDD rather than the SSD this would compound the issue.
My recommendation is to put 16Gb of RAM into your computer. I think this would help a lot and shouldn’t be expensive. A quick check on Amazon shows it would be around £50 or so to buy and it’s easy to install.
To check and make sure your swap file is located on your SSD you can find the details (and change them) by opening the Advanced System Settings option under Settings / System / About. Click on Performance > Settings > Advanced. If you ‘Change’ the Virtual Memory settings you’ll be able to see where, physically, the swap file is located. Don’t alter any of the other settings but do make sure it’s physically located on your SSD AND that your SSD has plenty of room for it.
Tnx for your response, ive never heard of swap file but with these instructions i should be able to find it. Is it also possible to change settings so the video card uses less of that memory? Testing this in a bit when my daughter gets off my computer
Edit: i changed the swap file to be on the SSD, it said recommended amount was 1890MB but after rebooting it was 8990MB. Should i use the option to manually set a max amount?
I would advise against altering the swap file settings (other than the location of the swap file itself) - modern Operating Systems (which includes Windows 11) are very good at handling this automatically. Unless you know what you’re doing it’s easy to make things worse, not better.
With regard to the video card grabbing some of your system memory I think this is not possible to prevent; essentially it’s using system memory to store things like textures / patterns and similar because there isn’t enough VRAM on the card itself to do this. I don’t believe it is possible to prevent this but someone more familiar with this particular card may know more.
From what I see, the ‘bottleneck’ on your PC is system RAM and you have several things fighting for this resource. The computer itself needs a bit of RAM for it’s own use. Your application (WOW in this case) needs a chunk of RAM as well. Your video card seems to be grabbing about half of the RAM into the bargain so everything is trying to fight over this resource.
What the ‘swap file’ does is trick the computer into thinking it has more memory than it does and it swaps memory in and out with the file on your SSD as required. Unfortunately, what I think is happening is that the computer is spending lots of time swapping stuff in and out to ‘make it all work’ which is why you’re having all of these delays and hold ups.
I really have no suggestions to offer other than installing 16Gb of RAM instead of the 8 you are using. It’s not a difficult job (I am assuming you have a desktop and not a laptop here) and RAM is relatively cheap but I’m aware that ~£50 is not an insignificant amount for people on a fixed budget so I understand this may not be an option for you.
One thing you could try is to turn all the settings in WOW right down. The game won’t look as pretty but will still, essentially, work. This might help a bit and is certainly worth trying.
I’m sorry I can’t make any more suggestions than this.
Ty for your help, ill look into buying more ram
