Help! Mouse Over Macros

Looking for help from some of you macro wizards out there.

So I just returned to the game, and i wanted to sort some mouse over macros. for caster dps and healers.

i was wondering if there was a mouse over macro for lets say holy shock. the macro would be:

#showtooltip Holy Shock
/cast [@mouseover] Holy Shock

My question is, is there a way to improve the macro so it would heal my self if there is no target (so no target = use on self) of some sorts.

Thank you!

This should do it.

Just says you have no player, i want it to holyshock my self if i have no target basically

 #showtooltip
 /use [@mouseover,help][@player] Flash Heal

Pog, thank you!

I personally don’t like this macro. Because it will only heal you if you have no mouseover, so even if you click on a friendly player or an enemy, it will not allow you to cast it on them without mousing over, because it will always pick you without the mouse over. That is how that macro works, if I am not sorely wrong.

However.

/cast [mod:shift, target=focus][target=mouseover, exists][nomod] Flash Heal

That is my standard go to macro. With modifier and stuff.

If I had to rewrite that for you, it would look something like.

/cast [target=mouseover, exists] Flash Heal

That would allow the macro to work as a mouseover, but still allow you to cast the spell as if it wasn’t a macro at all.

I still would suggest clique-mouseovers for this. With clique you keep al normal behaviour of spells, except you use an ability prioritized on mouseover unit frame-bars, so no somewhere where your mouse is ‘in the field’.

So you get the priority of:
1: a unit frame you mouse over,
2: your current target,
3: yourself.

It is of course personal preference, but i totally dislike mouseovering stuff in the field and use an ability on that target. It is really hard to aim for the right target. When you want to heal your tank, you so easily mouseover an enemy. And holy shock can be used as damage on an enemy, or as heal for an ally.

Mouseover doesn’t mean you have to mouseover the nameplate in the field. You got enemy frames in arena and friendly party frames, that are large enough to mouseover. It counts as the same.

Then i didnt type it that clear. The problem is that it is doing that thing in the field TOO. and that can result in unexpected behaviour.
You want to holy shock your target, has 20 targets on your screen. Your mouse is somewhere, you holy shock something where your mouse is.

Ah I understand what you mean now. I both agree and disagree. I agree, because playstyle is subjective. Like some people still use A and D to turn their character left and right. Not strafe, but turn.

I would highly recommend not doing that, for instance. Like I don’t backpeddle either. Same as I avoid that unexpected result you talk about, by majority of the time having right mousebutton clicked down. That stops the macro from working as a mouseover when I don’t need it to.

is Clique-mouseovers an addon or what?

Also this is all new to me, i just wanna heal my self if i don’t have a mouse over, and if i mouse over a frame or a actually name plate, friendly or otherwise then yeah i’d like the ability to work, i.e if iwanna holy shock the boss, i’ll mouse over boss, if i want to holy shock my self i’ll mouse over nothing, and if i wanted to do it on a ally in the raid/party, i’d mouse over them either via their nameplates, if its to cluttered via their frame in the party

Yes, Clique is an addon
The default mouseover-macro’s you can make with Clique are only bound to frames. And it is really easy to configure.

Edit:
You just added something in your post. If you want to mouseover nameplates in the field, then i suggest just use your current mouseover macro’s.

I’d love to help you. Making macros has been my spare time for quite some years now. I won’t say I’m the master of macros, not at all. But I’ve made and been asked to make, various macros that can do all different things. Some impossible, some easy and some difficult to make. :stuck_out_tongue: But I’ve managed. I’ve tried to find you on your server, but I think it might be easier if you try to catch me on mine.
