Hi all,
I want to buy new monitor which I will use both for work and gaming - mostly wow.
Having the ability to charge laptop via USB C is a requirement and I am then trying to find monitor model that has 144 Hz. However it seems hard or very expensive, but there are few 120 Hz and 100Hz options.
Currently I have trash monitor with 60 Hz.
My question basically is whether I should aim for 144Hz or 100 and 120 will be just fine for wow?

Imm
120Hz feels great, and I don’t think 144Hz works on USB-C connections? And even if it does, 144Hz doesn’t feel much better than 120Hz. It was a small overclock originally, similar to 72Hz for 60Hz monitors.
Thunderbolt on modern laptops support 4K120Hz while charging up to 240W (depending on the monitor’s PSU obviously)
I am currently using a MacBook hooked up to a monitor, keyboard, mouse, mic, speakers, etc. with a single cable. MacBook is receiving 100W as well. Just one cable for my whole desktop setup. It’s pretty neat ngl.
Hi THanks for our reply.
My setup is desktiop windows machine and work laptop which is also (sadly) windows.
What I want is to connect work laptop on USBC to have power and monitor, and I also want to have 144 (or 120Hz) when I play wow, which will be done via display port on desktop computer.
I am trying to understand whether I should aim for USBC + 144 (which is rare and expensive) or USBC+120 will do the job, which after this discussion I think it will.
PS In previous role I used macbook air as work laptop and indeed it felt great to use only one cable.

Oh, the windows laptop should be able to do it with one USB-C cable as well. Just gotta make sure you get one with Thunderbolt
I know that.
The whole point of me making this thread is to seek advice on 144 vs 120 vs 100 HZ for wow.

Imm
I would recommend 144Hz unless it’s very expensive, in which case 120Hz is absolutely fine, but 100Hz feels noticeably worse.
Do with that what you will

Can your PC do WoW at the settings you want at 144hz?
Okay, so, depending on how sensitive you are you won’t see any difference between 120 and 144Hz, so go with the more available to you depending on size, price, picture quality (IPS, nanoIPS, OLED, etc.), GSync/FreeSync capabilty depending on GPU, etc.
No 144+Hz display user achieves 144 FPS in WoW excpet overworld and the likes, so…yeah, that’s that.
Having 120/144Hz for desktop work though, compared to 60/100 is such a plus, ging below 120Hz nowadays with a new display is just a waste.

Aslong is has 120-144hz. I got 144hz monitor and use 1080p reso with 144hz and my fps yo-yo between 60-130. Tn panel BenQ Zowie XL2411 24" and ips panel AOC 24" 24G2U were both 200e good and cheap gaming monitors that came high in reviews.
Yeah. It does, though not in very intense raid situations and in Dornogal. 4k, 8/10.
144 hz or fps is a sweet spot .if your desktop can handle it .go for that one .
