I am having a lot of issues taking threat from high damage or burst dps classes. Those who don’t wait for me to get aggro.
I usually open up with avengers shield. Throw in blessed hammers consecration and shield of righteousness.
And i keep divine toll as a backup tool to get aggro if someone pulled by mistake or when my other abilities on cd.
I don’t have this issue with druids for example cause I have multiple aoe snap threats generating tools.
But with paladin it feels like my entire group or raid members have to compensate for my lack of snap threat.
With pugs there are always those people who play like they need to go to the bathroom.
The game itself incentivizes that style.
So is this a known issue. Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a tool that I should be using to snap aggro that I don’t know of?
I mean in some fights I had to resort to divine shield just to aoe Taunt and keep aggro.
A boss like Razagath for example when I am tanking the adds. They get summoned all around me. I use divine toll with wings just to snap aggro.
Then on second add when they spawn . I have to divine shield taunt them. Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to get them off the dps.
3rd pack. Depends on my divine toll cd. And I have to throw blessing of protection. Taunt. And sacrifice on other dps who stole aggro.
To me this is literally outside my control.
Another boss that I have zero control over threat. Is the tree boss in academy. Once he raises the adds I just divine shield. Cause I know there’s no way I would snap this aggro.
Play with Soaring Shield and get 2/2 Tyr’s Enforcer. It’ll help out a lot getting aggro on a big pack of mobs. If someone decides to go full nuke on 10+ mobs the moment they spawn and die from it, that’s their fault really
As for the tree boss. Like I said. Play Soaring Shield and use Divine Toll for when 2nd adds spawn. You’ll have aggro on all of them 99% of the time and 1st spawn doesn’t matter as they’ll be dead before they become active
Kinda troll to say Eye of Tyr even for weak plan B, it does very little damage, basically tickle the mobs. Just send Divine Toll on cd for snap threat, play moment of glory with bastion of light and combo these 2 for big aoe burst, if there’s a blaster bop them, Bubble taunt should be last resort for threat.
On Raz have divine toll for group 1/3. For the second group you can make sure you have AS when they spawn and consecration down.
On the tree boss I save divine toll for the adds - the bubble is just to trivialise the phase. But people need to wait one second before being padlords, they are just being bad if they nuke instantly.
I have to say changing from DK to paladin I’ve noticed drop in aggro esp. the first 1-3 sec of the fight. I try to safe Divine Tool for the big / heavy caster groups but a lot of the times I end using it on the burst nonetheless lol
I use Divine Toll to pull packs. Always. Unless it’s on CD, and then I use Avenger’s Shield, and I’m ready to pull in any it doesn’t hit with Judgement and a Shield of the Righteous to the face (always have enough Holy Power for SOTR on pull).
I use a Plater profile that fades the colour out of the nameplates as I’m losing aggro, and I sometimes see them go pale on pull, but it’s very rare for a mob to go onto a dps unless the dps was so trigger happy that they hit it before I did. If that happens, I fall back on the trusty ‘you pull it, you tank it’ philosophy.
Divine Tool has too short of a CD to keep for a rainy day its apart of your opener on pulls, should never keep abilities just if someone does something bad however if you know a pack has some serious insane casts you can hold it until they start casting a couple of secs into the fight for an AoE interupt.
Plan for what you know is coming not what might be coming, also if someone like a Warrior leaps into a group and pop off before you have even casted an ability thats a they problem not a you problem.
Other than that work on your rotation spicy up your damage as someone else said Tyr’s/Soaring goes a long way to help your damage output. Also Paladin is finally getting some well deserved damage buffs this wednesday.
As far as tree boss goes I usally Divine Toll the first wave you need to pick up and bubble taunt the 2nd, a 3rd wave is extremly rare but if that would come Divine Toll would be up again. Divine Toll has never failed me on that boss.
