Hello! For me, this is the first gaming experience, before that I only played Perfect World, so forgive me for creating such a topic.
I recently created a character for Kazzak, played a little and then wanted to play for the Alliance, I went to Silvermoon and when I got to Stormwind, I was surprised that the city is so empty, compared to what I saw in the Horde, it’s very small. Perhaps this is only the first impression and I am wrong, but I would like to make the right choice.
I am looking for a server with a well developed economy so that there are many people so that you can easily buy and sell easily, I really like trading and if horde servers are more suitable for my requirements, then I would play on horde servers, but if Horde and Alliance servers are in this the plan is very similar, then I would continue to play further for the Alliance on Silvermoon or Ravencrest, depends on what you advise me.
Again, sorry for creating a similar topic and thanks for the replies!
Welcome to Azeroth, Unrih!
I’m glad to see your post! I wish more newcomers investigated their realm choices before they committed months to developing a character.
You have an unusually sophisticated appreciation of the benefits of a booming economy.
Your answer is Draenor Horde. If you specifically want to have also an Alliance operation on another realm, then Silvermmon Alliance would be it. (Argent Dawn Alliance might also be interesting for a niche application, but let’s stick to the mainline.)
The economy is driven by competitive play - Raids, Mythic-Plus dungeons, PvP Rating. Many people are willing to pay whatever it takes to get the best gear and the most progress during the first weeks of a patch. This means that the Auction House is driven by new content. New expansion or new patch means new raids, new dungeon levels, new arena rankings, new gear that drops, new items to craft.
At the start of an expansion, the economy boosts into space. At the start of a patch, there is usually a pretty big bump. We have just had the final major patch of this expansion a few weeks ago, so we will expect a stady and declining market from now until next expansion, with a possible bump for the future minor patch 9.2.5, but we don’t know when that will be.
So you have time to get yourself established, level a couple of characters, set up a banker character, earn some starting gold that you will invest later to make more.
So why Draenor? Look at
and click on the Horde column to sort by Horde (raiding) population. While there are a couple of realms with more progress, due to a small number of the highest guilds in the world, Draenor has the bulk of the upper-middle-class, and it does not have the practical downsides of, say, Kazzak or Twisteing Nether.
Horde is booming. I would not be surprised to find that 80% of high-level (not top-level; just high-level) play is Horde-side at the moment. Reasons are historical, a situation Blizzard let develop over years. So, while Silvermoon as a single realm is comparable to Draenor, the Horde activity advantage makes Draenor AH move faster.
Let me throw in a few tips:
-
Subscribe to and read https://old.reddit.com/r/woweconomy/ diligently.
-
Get Auctionator addon RIGHT NOW, and start studying up on TradeSkill Master (TSM) addon.
-
Find some gold-making videos on YouTube that relate to current patch (9.2) and absorb the context. Don’t take any specific methods of gold-making too seriously; just get a sense of where the ropes are.
-
Gathering professions are a great way to start picking up small amounts of gold for your starting stake. I would look at Herbalism and Skinning, also Fishing in Revendreth. Gathering below the current expansion is a niche activity - some items like Ghost Iron Ore, and Primals, can be used for making cosmetics, but the reliable living is to be made in Shadowlands.
