before wasting devs’ time and my nerves (since Blizz replies are usually rubbish), someone please help me out. So, with dream surges, I thought it would be good to get some normal Aberrus tier sets for my alts. You get 1 415 ilvl → 1/8 champion piece of gear per week, but you also get tons of 402 ilvl → 1/8 veteran gear.
Converting a 415 ilvl piece is supposed to grant you the normal appearance of the set. That works well with 1/8 champion gear, but why doesn’t it work with 5/8 veteran? Catalyst doesn’t even allow me to put the 415 veteran pieces inside, and as said - these are the pieces I got from 402 dream surge tokens, and I upgraded them. I have enough of charges btw. The 1/8 veteran gear, I can deposit normally (shown on screenshot).

I have no idea. You don’t get the Normal appearance after you’ve used the catalyst, got LFR appearance and then upgraded the particular veteran piece with flightstones and crests to 415?
Ok then I understood correctly that you did it that way, I was curious if the way I described might work in that case
I have no idea, so worst case scenario you waste flightstones to check whether that way does work. It’s odd tho, I’m as confused as you are, with Suffused and Rift gear it went fine.
AFAIK you can put veteran gear from instances (LFR or M+ below 11) into the catalyst.
That is very weird, but given how inconsistent the rest is, it may be a case of “it is what it is”. You can of course put the 1/8 vet gear in, then upgrade it afterwards. You will unlock the transmogs whenever it passes an ilvl threshold.
The answer is simple, they don’t want you getting LFR tier/mog that easily that leads to normal tier even if that has been the case for quite a while now. 8 catalyst chargers turns to 16, meaning 16 weeks weeks to complete 2 sets for any casual not doing actual group content instead of the usual 8 weeks. It’s their “solution” to make you stay on for longer. There’s a reason the Suffused gear is RNG on top of RNG.
Seeing as you can get both the full LFR and normal appearance by doing a time rift once each week for 8 weeks I call bullcrap on that one.
In case there is some sort of confusion about it: you can get a token for a piece of gear once a week from time rifts that you can exchange for a 402 piece of gear that you can use for the catalyst. This is not counting the gear that can drop from dream surges.
I catalysted a pair of gloves during the weekend, and while I do have them in the gloves tab in the sets they show up as not being collected, for example.
Your comment was a general statement made on how evil Blizzard is padding out transmog acquisition time for casuals, which is not true.
The mog can be obtained from different sources without having to do instanced content, sources that are also world content. Same goes for specific zaratek pieces as well as they work with the catalyst too.
