Recently my GPU has started spinning up the fans to just absolutely and annoyingly rediculous levels of noise anytime I go somewhere ingame that has these fog effects.
Scourgelord Tyrannus in the IC rare rotation atm is a perfect example. Not a blip of noise from PC all day, soon as I land there, WOOOSHHHHHHHHHHHH and the noise holds constant and loud until I either leave the area completely or zoom completely in. If I zoom out again, 10 seconds of silence then, again, WOOSHHHHHHH and it holds.
Novos the Summoner spawn point with all those fel effects does the exact same thing too.
Demon Hunter class hall too.
Anywhere that has those same kind of “fog” effects, turns my GPU into a literal jet engine until I leave the areas.
Any ideas how I can stop this ?

You can’t really stop it since it is an engine/optimization issue with WoW.
The only thing you can do is to turn down the particle quality setting and reduce AA.
noticed this as well. the area where you do the mushroom daily in icecrown has a huge impact on performance.
come on, blizz. the game is very poorly optimized in some areas.

Hey at least we got raytracing shadows that are hardly noticeable and cut your FPS in half

Ok, so no idea why this worked, but it has lol my pc is silent again and I’m smack bang in the middle of that fog effect at Scourelord Tyrannus’s spawn point.
The only two things I have changed is switching from DX11 to DX11 Legacy, and Ambient Occlusion Type to the new FidelityFX CACAO.
Any ideas why that has made a difference ?
Well i guess it could be because of DX11 Legacy.
That will significantly lower your FPS on modern systems.
So it could be that your FPS is now much lower in general and the GPU does not get as hot.
