Help with Realm

Hi im still kinda new to this game and im not sure which realm to pick.

And yet you have chosen well!

My rule of thumb:

  • If you want to play an Alliance character, go to Silvermoon
  • If you want to play a Horde character, go to Draenor

And here you are - a Horde character on Draenor!

Are there any reasons to go anywhere else?

Well, if you want to do Role-Playing, you will find it on Argent Dawn.

If you are turned off by some lag and even queues at the start of each expansion every two years, because those realms are so popular, you might choose a slightly smaller realm, maybe Ravencrest for Alliance or Stormscale for Horde.

There might be some specialised reasons to choose other realms, like if you want to hoin a specific guild.

The logic of the current game is that you want to be on a realm with as many of your own faction as possible and as few of the opposing faction as possible. This is a breakdown of realms by faction. Sort by faction to see the top realms for Alliance and Horde. The numbers are of raiding guild members only, but they are a good proxy for overall population.

Thank u for ur help yes I indeed choose Drae when i lvld my warlock which i got bored of and have a char in Silvermoon aswell. I heard that I might have more luck on a medium server though since it will make farming and getting gold easier ?

And btw is it correct that I can only play with the same faction players in dungeons?

Heya!

That is correct that you can only play with your same faction in dungeons - generally it’s never really possible to play with the other faction. The only exception to this is in battlegrounds when when playing as a mercenary!

Thank you thats good to know!

sigh No. Once upon a time, the world made sense. In higher population realms you had more competition for farming but better markets, and in lower ones you had less competition byt things were slow to sell.

Then came Cross-Realm-Zones. Has to be one of the Top Five Worst things ever to happen to WoW.

Now, quests and farming in the world are not confined to your realm. In every zone, people from other realms just appear in the your zones, so you will see a mix of Horde and Alliance from many realms. Just because you choose a Medium realm doesn’t mean that the number of people in zones will be Medium. Maybe you’re on a Medium realm and seeing lots of people from Draenor. That’s the fate of my Alliance characters :sob: - despite being on a small realm, to be overwhelmed by the overflow from a large realm anyhow.

So the best you can do, from a farming point of view, is to be in the majority faction of one of the largest realms, and be part of strip-mining the resources from smaller realms, instead of being on a smaller realm where the big realms eat all the farms.

Addition to all the help above it could be useful to know earlier that you need to be at the same server(and faction ofc) to join a guild. So if you dont have friends anywhere crowded servers might do you better in the long run.

Also the top populated realms seem to have shifted after the launch problems and the free transfers.
Atm Ravencrest (alliance) and Kazzak (horde) is on top. Argent dawn is still top RP.

Nuh-uh.

You believe https://www.wowrealmpopulation.com/wow-eu-realms-population-alliance.php ?

Be careful with those third party sites, especially when they say very strange things.

According to that site at the moment, Silvermoon has 391 characters.
https://www.wowrealmpopulation.com/wow-eu-realm.php?realm=silvermoon

Do you really think they’ve got that right? Do you really think Silvermoon has lost 99.99% of its population in two months? :stuck_out_tongue:

No, but I know the population did shift some from the launch. Ravencrest used to be in the top 5, so not that far fetched that it’s now closer to the top?

It is not at all plausible that Silvermoon is down to 400 characters.

Adjust your credibility filters accordingly.

Yes, I’m sure Ravencrest is viable, maybe the second largest EU English realm, but since Blizzard pulled down the Iron Curtain on the major methods of measuring realm numbers, every claim needs to be examined carefully.

P.S. I just checked that page again, and according to them Silvermoon now has no Alliance characters at all, but one lonely Hordie.

Oh my! :see_no_evil:
I really miss that piechart site to give a pointer when it came to realm population

Me too. Realmpop.com was somewhat reliable, as far as anything could be reliable.

Blizzard killed it, and Warcraftrealms, very precisely.

Personally I would go with the realm list ingame, if only it told you the percentage of each faction.
