Help with which Caster for Solo PVE stuff

Hi,

Hope someone can help guide me in the right direction
I am having a hard time trying to decide which caster to work on as a new main to which I solo alot with the odd bit of pvp or dungeons. I am trying to decide between Evoker, Shadow Priest or Mage but not sure which one is the better one for soloing harder things like Rares and Elites that are in the newer zones.

I like to run around alot solo and when bump into a rare/elite I like to jump in and try to solo it and up until now normally played melee mainly DK/pally over the years but really want to get into a caster as a 2nd main so one for melee and one for casting

I have played all 3 classes and enjoy all 3 of their playstyles so that didn’t help.

I have asked this question in game in stormwind but never get any replys :frowning:

Don’t get me wrong I am not wanting people to pick my toon for me I am just really needing to know how well each of the 3 solo in pve against harder critters and such.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you in advance if you reply

Solo meaning old dungeons/raids or world content? Bc mage is great with its portals for getting to old content.

Generally mage blasts most open current open world content too.

whatever you choose don’t follow the meta because you will be changing every 2 weeks

I’ve a Shadow priest that feels really strong to solo with when I use a hybrid damage / healing build using Power Word : Life

Also spammable AoE to mow down packs of level 60 mobs.

If you wanna solo stuff mage is ok, but warlock is the king for solo content.

The biggest point for ranged soloing is having a pocket tank. So let’s play around it.

First and a bit weird advice, but…hunter. MM works like a caster with aimed shot hardcasts, and only difference from other casters is basically physical type of damage (though you have some magic school spells like Wailing Arrow and Explosive Shot). Pet is perfect for soloing PvE content and Hunters has tons of self-utility for this kind of gameplay.

Otherwise, Warlock in any spec. You have a blue boi that will tank anything for you. Maybe a bit worse than hunter’s pets, but still good option.

Last option – Shaman. Elemental can tank good enough for soloing some big things.

These three are easiest for soloing, any other casters can face problems after couple of big slaps from elites straight into face.

I know these two aren’t what you asked for…but maybe consider either BM Hunter or Destro Warlock as well ?

Both are great for soloing stuff, especially open world and old content.
Both have pets that can “tank” mobs and make life a whole lot easier lol… amongst other good abilities as well.

From the three that you asked for, I would pick Mage personally but only because Shadow is like a wet cloth in open world and I am not familiar with the new Evoker spec enough to say on it, my Evoker alt is still level 60

Honestly considering how garbage felguard is at tanking anything and voidwalker at keeping aggro I’d have to say that if anybody ever wanted to do open world content solo they’d be far better off going with hunter.

And yes I know they said caster but honestly my shadow priest is better at soloing stuff than my warlock.

I find this very strange, entirely conflicting with my experience.

I have a Shadow Priest, and a Warlock who can’t make up his mind between Destro and Aff. I don’t play either of them much. They are both wearing 385 hand-me-downs from Forbidden Reach,

My Shadow Priest is tougher in DF regular quests than I would expect, but my Lock can solo rares no problem that would reduce my Priest to a stain on the ground. My Voidie holds single-target aggro like a champ, can get sloppy with a big mob of mobs, but that’s OK.

Yeah my warlock is way better at solo content than my priest is.
The voidwalker does lose agro every so often, but takes it back very quickly. And the felgaurd is fantastic at tanking, never losing agro at all. Both with excelent health as well.

Never experienced that issue myself, and being able to just resummon my “tank” if it dies just makes 99% of outdoor content free when I’ve played lock.

Thank you everyone for your advice

I have been having a blast on my evoker but dusted off my lock to do solo stuff with

I have been doing well soloing as a aug evoker but you do have to put alot of work in (which I don’t mind) but lock is a whole other level of soloing

also means I can go and get the count title on my lock as his called Duckula

thanks again all

Demo all the way and you can keep the Felguard as he tanks just fine, you can even put points into him for damage taken reduction.
