I see a herb on minimap, i go to it and pick it.
I then get some message which I’ve long since forgotten now and the herb disappears. I dont get the herb but I do get the skill point for it.
Happens with ore nodes too. It’s very annoying. If it’s been gathered from too many times, it needs to disappear… not tempt us immediately before crushing our dreams.
Multi-tap seemed like a good idea when it was introduced, but even leaving out the case of multiboxing gatherers, it was at least no improvement.
With WoW’s original single-tap method, someone might get to the node before you, but at least you could see that. Now, someone gets to the last pick of a node before you and runs off, leaving a dot on your minimap which you spend time running to and starting to pick, only to waste your time and get annoyed for nothing.
If it is like in BFA, picking from a node also triggers a timer (I think it was 20 seconds). So even if only 1 person gathers the herb, a timer will start ticking and you have 20 (or is it 10?) seconds to get it before it disappear, which might result in getting that message cause it despawns when you are trying to take it. It also happens to me a lot, many people are farming herbs so it makes sense.
It is the reason you can still see it on the map because it didn’t get picked by the maximum players possible, but the timer is ticking.
I didn’t think the Herb/Ore nodes had a limited amount of picks, I thought it despawns the node after a certain amount of time after the first pick of the node but as many people who uses the node within that time can get herb/ore from it.
I don’t know what the timer is, and I don’t even know that there is a deterministic timer, but it has to be longer than 20 seconds, because I have run at one for several seconds only to have it vanish when there was apparently nobody else around. (But also see phasing.)
I also know that sometimes it does vanish instantly after picking, because I saw it happen against a multiboxer Druid in Nazjatar.
In general, I don’t know what logic they’re using. I suppose we could test it with a party and see what happens under various conditions.Whatever they’re doing could use some attention, tho.
Yea it is haes to know exactly how it works but this is what I remember from farming anchor weed in groups of 10 in BFA. Only 10 people could pick from a node, so if a random went to pick it up, one of us couldn’t get it.
We also had to hurry when someone started picking it because some of us didn’t have time to get there and it would disappear. It was really short so I remember something like 20 seconds, it may be more now.
It would be nice to know exactly and “officially” how it works though
