Managed to creep downstairs in the dark, forgetting we’d had building work done, so a new bannister rail, didn’t put the light on so as to be considerate, forgot the end bannister post was there, and utterly stacked it into the post. Effectively punching myself in the left eyesocket with a six foot length of wood.
Obviously there was pain, and swearing. In fact a lot of swearing. To be fair, probably some Concussion as well. Today however, I bear the results proudly, like a badge of honour, a war-wound.
Or I would, if it looked like an actual black eye.
Instead it is a sort of mauve/burgundy shaded bruise filling the entire socket, that makes me look like I am trying to bring back the ‘New Romantic’ fashion genre from the 80’s.
Brilliant. I mean at least it’s Lockdown. I can’t leave the house without looking like I got into a fight, having a black eye and being able to say “You should see the other fella” but instead I look like Ziggy bloody Stardust.
Brilliant.
2/10, would legit not almost lose an eye due to misadventure again.

Today is my first day of a full 8 day work week before I finish for good… Then a few days after it’s home to Scotland via Chicago and Heathrow. So if I’m off for a good bit you’ll know.
(And assuming someone doesn’t have a temper tantrum and gets me banned again)

Do actually know a woman who had to wear one of those for five years, and she utterly styled it. None of this ‘Medical’ nonsense, but a proper kind of “If I have to wear a functional eye patch, I want it to look as boss as possible” and to be fair, it made her look seriously windswept and cool, Happily she doesn’t need it anymore, but when she did, she bossed that look.
