Hi, me and my friend are trying to kill the heroic Gallywix, we know all the mechanics, we always told our group members everything they needed to know about this fight (every single thing he did during the fight). we tried 2/6/12, 2/5/13, 2/4/14 and nothing works. We invite people level 660-675 with experience, but there are always 3-5 people who die in P1, don’t do soaks, can’t even drop bombs or tanks, who don’t do their mechanics what they’re supposed to do. So I really don’t understand how many people already have this boss when they don’t even know what to do. Do you have any recommendations on what we should do?
You want to know my experience as an ex-raid leader is?
This. This is a problem.
And in my experience, it was caused by this: People see the recount. They see they are at the bottom/low in the recount. They try their best not to be a “burden”. They look at thier skill bars. At their keyboard. Or some addon in their screen to optimize that rotatoin.
They are generally nice people. That try their best. And they got nothing but good intentions.
However they get distracted by this. Get hit by the swirlie. And die.
The solution?
- Simplify their rotation. Get simplified talent trees. To choose just 4 or 5 buttons they are allowed to press. ONLY 5 skills. No more. ST skills (forget about the adds and AoE rotations).
Then all they have to do is press 1,2,3,4,5 in a sequence and focus on not dying and executing mechanics. Because even if they do tank damage, its fine. Its more than 0. And the DPS they are not doing by executing a full rotation is compesated by the other 3-5 people that are fully decked in Myth gear and are doing bonkers damage.
And if that is not possible… dont worry.
In 11.1.7 we get the 1-button rotation. Tell those 3-5 people to press 1… and focus 100% of their attention on mechanics. Because this is what kills them.
Because an AFK hunter does more DPS than a dead DD. The goal of a heroic raid is to kill the boss. Not to kill the boss in 30s. You got 10 minutes to kill it. A whole raid doing tank damage has enough DPS to kill Gallywax on heroic, as long as they dont die.
That is how I used to “progress” with F&F heroic raid.
This is a really good point and this can be a problem. But it will be very difficult to explain to someone, there are few people who always listen to every call or any recommendation, the few others have high egos and after one dead in P1 they left and it’s over and over again. Our best was when he has 10-13% but he dropped bombs and soaks so people were confused, few of us dropped bomb and ran to the soak, meanwhile other players just stood and watched and the other players fought with bombs and forgot to do soak. Maybe it’s a good idea to mark players who will be doing a small soak and the other players will drop the bombs in this situation?
This is literally why its called “progress”.
First off people aren’t going to execute perfectly. If I give you the recipe for a cake you aren’t going to bake it as well as an expert and you’d look at them funny if they shouted at you saying “But I told you how to make this! Why isn’t it to the same standard as mine?”
Secondly, invite random people off the internet, get random results. How is this even surprising or noteworthy?
Wait a minute… you are not in a guild? Its just you and 1 friend puggign 20 people?
This is going to fail. Your solution is to join a F&F guild and raid with them. All the time you have wasted PuGing this boss (or any boss) you could have spent it looking for a F&F guild have have had Gallywax on farm 2 months ago.
F&F guilds that only raid heroic are FAR from the quality of Mythic raiding guilds. They also die. Eat swirlies. Fail mechanics… a LOT of fails.
But:
(A) they wont leave.
(B) you are in Discord.
(C) you “progress” as in practice the boss and improve little by little.
(D) you can remind people of mechanics real time via Discord.
(E) you can propose suggestions.
(F) Its a F&F guild. You will have guaranteed fun with genuine nice people. Even if you wipe 300 times. Not randoms from the internet.
So I take back my previous suggestion. Find a guild. If you dont manage for Gallywax, then make sure you do for next season.
Yeah I totally agree with you. But if they’ve done it already, I expect them to do it without a problem. And then me and my friend who didn’t kill it and just watched a few videos and read a few guides, I know more and we can do everything that’s needed without a problem. And I think it’s not that hard to understand a few mechanics. So I just want to know if we’re doing something wrong and if there’s a way to do it better.
