Hexxer or Witch Doctor?

Greetings, drama-eaters, I am planning to race-change my shaman into a troll, and wanted him originally to be a Witch Doctor, but then I remembered there was also a thing called Hexxers.

Now I am quite crap at Troll lore, despite how interesting it really is, so I’d like to know, if there is any difference between Witch Doctors and Hexxers. Is it just different names for the same thing, or do they do different things entirely?

being a hexxer is like a specialization of the witch doctor skill set, in my mind.

Yes, agreed. Focus on hexes, basically. Doesn’t have to be more complicated than that.

Honestly this is more or less what we have to go on, I don’t think hexers have much lore beyond the RPG books - and even in there they’re referred to as a variant witch doctor.

“All shaman and witch doctors know of ways to invoke spirits to do their bidding. The hexer (or hexxer) takes this craft to a new level, calling the wrath of spirits down upon his enemies. With a dance and a chant, he weakens and debilitates his foes. If a particular enemy becomes troublesome, he can bind a hostile spirit into an idol, delivering a permanent curse.”[1]

So a hexer is a Witch Doctor/shaman who focuses on calling on spirits to inflict curses in particular.

What they’re saying.
While they draw from the same spirituality, and invoke from the same spirits and sources; witch doctor is also a title and a position. They are spiritual leaders, as much as they are extremely powerful.
Witch Doctors tend to be more varied in what they do, and in how they call on spirits for their needs.
Hexers, obviously, have a focus on curses, hexes and specialise in darker forms of voodoo; on using spirits for purposes of pain or chaos.
Your hexer probably isn’t going to be all about calling on spirits to ease suffering or clean a water supply. 8)
