High CPU temperature while playing WoW

I noticed lately how my Intel CPU temperature is rising randomly to ~95 Celsius range while playing WoW. This happens only when WoW is the current window (it doesnt happen with game playing in background) and happens regardless of activity I am doing in game (WQ, raid, bg, gathering etc). The temperatures are the same on the lowest graphic settings and highest graphic settings. I updated all my addons and drivers - didn’t solve the problem. I have 60 FPS limit for game. Also this only happens in Warcraft, other Blizzard and non-Blizzard games are unaffected.

Hey Laissya,

Have a look into the Checking for Overheating Components Support article. You can skip the first section as you already know your temperatures, but the second part can be helpful for you “To prevent overheating”. Give those steps a go to see if you can bring down the temperature.

Have a few seconds to spare? Let me know how I’m doing!

If your CPU gets hot, it means your CPU is either poorly cooled, working very hard, or both.

Make sure your CPU cooler and its fan isn’t clogged with dust. Also, if you run WoW on the integrated GPU it’s expected that it will get particularly hot, as GPUs are very parallel devices and can thus draw a lot of power.

To help with this, you can start off with enabling vertical synch in System settings if you haven’t already, to make sure your iGPU isn’t working any harder than it has to. (Don’t forget to turn on triple buffering in Advanced tab, to help keep screen update latency low.)

You could also enable Max Foreground FPS (and background FPS) sliders and lower them a bit, if heating is a concern to you. Or reduce graphics quality sliders, until you are more satisfied with temps.

Note: these tips only apply for CPUs with integrated GPUs (that are being actually used, obviously… :stuck_out_tongue:) If you use a discrete graphics card then adjusting graphics settings won’t affect CPU temps in any major way.
