Ironically, these shorter elf ears would have been my jam back when I joined WoW. I thought the long and slender ears were weird and then some.
Nowadays I couldn’t imagine myself playing a WoW elf with short ears.

I think this is an implicit admission by Blizzard that they got it wrong with adding Void Elves – adding a complete -pull race (dude blood elves … but purple LOL) out of no where instead of just making playable the High Elves, a race already established in lore, already established as an Alliance race, already with established lore characters involved in the story.
The fact that this race added in Legion(!) had (as far as I remember) 0 relevance or involvement with BfA (apart from a quest where you throw some goblin mobs into a void rift?) shows that whoever at Blizzard came up with them put no thought into beyond “wow … shadow elves … that’s epic + badass …”
The addition of blue eyes + non-purple skin is a half-solution to what players wanted – now, the incoming boom “high elf” players will have to cope with the fact their player tooltip will forever remind them of the race they’re -really- playing (not to mention their shadow combat buff effect).
Ultimately, void elves are just another stone in the path down Warcraft’s decay.
Truly the Monkey’s Paw of our time.
thank you trp for helping plaster over the pain
I’d completely forgotten about this though, that’ll certainly suck.
Their voices are also warped. So it’ll still demand some suspension of disbelief in the case of High Elf characters, though not nearly as much as is currently the case.
wonder how many not-a-dk-ic haters will suddenly be able to look past the voice modulation when high elves are involved
It might pull a Night Warrior and remove the modulation if you’re not blue skinned.
Yeah I’m hoping it might be similar to the way Death Knights work, where certain faces are tied to certain skin colours. Only with hair styles/colours being tied to skin.
I expect them to still have the voice, though, and of course they’ll still have the racials.
I’m hoping they just turn them into high elves completely! Better late than never!
Void elf RPers will get over it!
No, I’d rather keep my void elves, thanks.
The whole thing is about increasing in variety, not changing the restrictions.
I for one find void elves really unique and interesting. Will be keeping mine in his more voidy skin and hair.
Might make that high elf on another character tho…
I for one will stick to being a weird blueberry tentacle freak on my velf.
This sums up nuBlizzard in a nutshell, look at Kul tirans we just got fat people as a race. Instead of getting some Vrykul/Norn compromise, or a kind of a build that was aesthetically pleasing we got Amy Schumers stunt double. Someone actually sat down and thought that was a good idea. What’s worse is there are lots of fan edits that have created a vastly superior model. I’m not even going to touch on diaper gnomes, as cool as the concept of playable mechagnomes is they somehow thought a giant diaper slapped on to the model was going to improve it. I just can’t help but think Blizzard needs an intervention at this point because almost everything they do is a monkey paw wish, or so half hearted it’s clear unless it appeals to the artists personal tastes/politics they make no substantial effort.
There are countless posts, threads, etc complaining about both of these issues in far more depth that I could ever hope too. I can’t even remember the site now but at one point Kul tiran women were less than 50k in number out of the entire player base. That’s pretty dire. Helfs should have been an option rolled in to velfs from the very start. They knew players wanted it. They knew they were opening pandora’s box. I would have preferred they did not add velfs at all but in doing so they created this mess and then tried to wriggle out of the situation they created, it’s pathetic. If they’re going to go this far by adding ‘some’ helf skins they might as well get it over, add everything, instead of performing mental gymnastics to try to pretend this isn’t totally the same race as helfs!
Maybe they can find a way to bring some criticial analysis in to ‘the dojo’ but I doubt it at this rate.
As much as I have advocated for Blood Elves to get the blue eyes options.
I would still fear that option far more than I would Void Elves with non-corrupted skin options.
The roleplay tag of ‘High Elf’ is likely to be very prevalent in the Horde and Silvermoon in particularely, as much as it was back when Blood Elves were first introduced.
This is a far worse consequence.
Sure, but if we jump down this rabbit hole a lot of race/class combinations wouldn’t/shouldn’t exist.
I mean, Darkspear were nearly extinct when Thrall saved them, how many Darkspear Druids could there be to explain them being a playable race/class combo ?
Same with Void Elves of any class
There’s no distinction between the two races at all any more, helf and belf. Personally I think the Elves should all create a third faction now.
Pfft.
Blood Elves in a faction with arrogant Night Elves and traitorious Void/High Elves.
No way.
I don’t think Blizzard is going to admit these are High Elves – they’ll say they’re more like Alleria Windrunner who appears like an angel until you mess with the demon inside her.
So, since these new void elves have not been subjected to the same forceful transformation as the first generation void elves were, it should mean that they don’t suffer from the whispers of the void.
