The camera positioning on these two mounts are bugged. Compared to the other dragonriding mounts the camera is positioned way above the dragon and character. If you don’t zoom out super far the mount is barely on the screen.

For Blood Elves yes, but the camera is generally far worse for all races when it comes to Renewed Proto Drakes. It’s something they didn’t have time to address for the last 10 weeks. It looks and feels absolutely ridiculous at lower zoom-out levels. So bad in fact that player are actively avoiding using this drake type for this one reason.
I think the proto-drakes were fixed in 10.1.7, at least the normal ones were. The Blood Elf camera bug was also fixed for all mounts in 10.1.7.
Highland/Netherdrake bug is on all races.

Lets leave the thinking for some other time and have facts speak for themselves. These are examples of half-way between full first person view and max default zoom-out value.

If you exceed the allowed zoom-out value (through basic console commands), proto appears slightly closer to center but it doesn’t necessarily make things look any better. For many users the player and mount model is predominantly obstructed by action bars and other UI elements.
Basic flying proto drakes from older expansions have had bugged movement animations (speed walking) and camera positions and by now “most” has been more carefully adjusted. I wouldn’t discount the possibility that at least one of them gets or still is completely broken between patches, which seem strange since all of them use the exact same skeleton. Zero consistency.

ActionCamPlus fixed it for me, no more camera-miles-above-character bug on the drakes.
However, since the Wylderdrake already had the bug where your camera focuses in TOO LOW when in the air, the addon can make it worse. Worth it imo since I never use the wylderdrake.
Funny how such a major feature was released so unpolished.
