I’ve played this great game since 2004 and I am quite enjoying The War Within and Classic Hardcore (Currently a 31 Troll Shaman). Which lead me to thinking how I barely see the world these days. Nearly all the zones with the current graphic setting I am able to get look so amazing I have rolled a few new alts to re-experience them, but hit one large snag in that you are thrown XP at you at such a fast rate you out level everywhere so quickly, even in TWW the XP boost that you get for levelling characters to 80 mean I can get to 80 on a new character before even finishing a zone.
What I was wonder was would anyone else be interested in a game mode or option to be able to level a character with reduced XP or XP scaled so that you can play from 1 to 70 through all the expansions and then TWW like you are a new character with no XP boosts?
Another possible idea would be to allow Timewalking expansions with the XP scaled so you can play 10 to 60 (or 70) through each expansion. So you get a chance to play a whole zone without skipping a zone or indeed being nagged by the game to start TWW or Dragonflight.
Whilst maybe not ideal for someone in search of what you are looking are for, up to level 69 you can disable and re-enable XP gains as much as you like. So you can self-manage the pace of levelling through expansions.
WoW, society and the industry as a whole have moved on a lot since 2004. Whilst you as a veteran player may enjoy the older ways and older content, new players will - mainly - want to get into the latest content where all the other people are as quickly as possible.
One of the ideas I had at a point was to repurpose Heirlooms to exactly that reason. In fact I think I did type that at some other thread in December? Cba to check.
Heirlooms were initially implemented to help players level up alts at a faster pace. With the “QoL” improvements in levelling, however, heirlooms have become mostly obsolete, not to mention their outrageous cost.
So I had the idea that levelling now takes longer depending on how many heirlooms one has equipped, but be rewarded with something that makes it not just worthwhile, but actually sought after:
Extra gold rewards from everything based on number of heirlooms that still scale?
Enemies and quests drop/reward timewalking badges or some other currency as long as they still scale?
Random chance of having old collectibles drop with this chance scaling linearly with number of scaling heirlooms equipped?
I understand that but, people are now grinding out Classic, which isn’t a fast process, I just thought it would be an idea to be able to level slow through older expansion to be able to see it all again.
I hasten to point out it’s just an idea not a demand or something to force on a player!
I’ve always just wanted an activate button for leveling. Like today when you get a level it applies automatically. “Ding!” But if you had to press a button to ding, then you were in charge of the leveling speed yourself. You would always be getting experience, but you would decide when to level up.
A bit like with the Recruit-a-Friend system, I think it was? Where you could give another player free levels and they would have the level-up token in their backpack. And then you could stand there in Stormwind and spam a bunch of level-up tokens and just instantly level up your character. Or you could choose not to.
I have invested time and effort into my looms in order to use them as leveling assistance for any class and spec. I’ve not spent so much gold, but event currency. Mostly timewalking tokens.
The looms have already been changed not to give extra experience. They just makes rested last longer. They have also been nerfed in power compared to dungeon drops (blues).
To render them all (but the weapons) useless by changing them to the exact opposite effect for which they were bought… Nope!
Reduced leveling speed, if wanted, must be achieved by other means than forcing it on everyone who bought looms for the purpose of easing the process of leveling.
So meanwhile people saying create a tabard to fix leveling which is so stupid…leveling was great before it give such a good feeling progressing learning the game lore now its too fast random and make no sense and ofc there is these people that say i cant handle slow leveling you just dont care about game and you just dont want to lose ur time .
