Hold and Release Empowered Spells

I’m a click caster, I use my mouse and click spells on the the action bars. I know, its a terrible method (apparently!) but that’s how I like to play.

I started playing my Dracthyr Evoker today, and I’ve just been introduced to the empowered spell system. I would like to use the hold and release method, that’s what is turned on in my options, but that doesn’t work when using the mouse, only when using keyboard short cuts. I have to click, then click again.

Is there any way to fix this?

Well, Ion uses keybinds so now you have to. ‘Suck it up, casuals’ has been the core WoW design philosophy for some time now so I can’t say I’m surprised.

Seems to be that way. I don’t use keybinds because I always forget what key does what, and it takes me much longer to try to remember which key I need to press, I find it so much easier just to click the images of the spells. I am getting old now though, so that’s not surprising!

Im getting used the the ‘click and click again’ method though, so its not too bad.

Don’t worry Odesta. I’m a clicker too!!!

I’m glad I’m not the only one!

But you only need to click 1-2 (or 3 spells as preserv) on keyboard per 30 sec. Is it really THAT issue for you?
You can bind them on 1-2-3, its very easy.

I have just tested this and I can click and hold empowered spells to make them stronger without needing to use a keybind (although I have it keybound anyway).

I’ll disable Elvui later and try it on the default but I cannot see it working with Elvui if it doesn’t on the default.

Just to let you know there is an option you click that changes it from hold to just click to start and then click to end.

I find it much easier.

I also don’t use keybinds in combat.

I have an MMO mouse and I set up my action bars in the same way as the mouse buttons, a 3x4 grid. So if I forget I can just look.

You can map similar stuff across characters too, e.g. I have my interrupts as 8, stun as shift+8, taunt as shift+7.

I was a clicker and an MMO mouse makes everything way easier.

That is my point. The option does not work. The only method that works is clicking to start the empower, and then clicking to end it. The click and hold option does not work with the mouse. I have no addons on at the moment, so its not an addon causing the issue.

Does that matter? Why should I play with keybinds if I don’t want to? I’ve tried both techniques of playing PC games, and I much prefer using the mouse to click icons, than using keybinds.

Like I said, I’ve been playing with the 2 click method for empowered spells for most of the day, and its not that big of an issue, I just thought someone might know how to fix this, as its obviously a bug.

Edit: My default UI has the option of click to start and click to end enabled. So the first click starts the empowering and the second click unleashes the spell.

Sorry with you now, yeah if you only use a mouse that is pretty rubnish

There is an option to change it under the Combat tab in options. Have you tried that?

The whole purpose of this thread is to say that the option does not work. I have the press and hold option turned on, and yet I still have to click twice.

I have turned all my addons off, restarted the game, reloaded the UI. Still the option says “click and hold” and still I have to click once to start the empower and then again to finish the spell.

I think it’s a bug with the default UI as the option works fine when using Elvui.

tbh, I find clicking the more efficient way of using this spell.

I’d say 50% of the time the cast just goes off straight way when I use the keyboard.

The charge is uncomfortable. I’d actually prefer it to goes off when I move, and for it cancel when I click it again. Edit: actually thinking about it, I would rather it just Go off, if I move or Click a 2nd time. I don’t care about cancelling it.
