"Hold Run/Walk" as well as "Toggle Run/Walk"

for players who like to roleplay, can we have an extra possible keybind for this?
hold to run/walk.

so if the character is walking by default while moving, holding said button would make them running, and letting go would revert to walking.

this would also be good for accessibility, players who use a joystick for movement would benefit from being able to bind more effectively.

There already is a run/walk hold, the keybind is “move and steer” (default middle mouse I believe), which runs/walks on hold depending on what you’ve toggled your movement speed to.

Or am I misunderstanding?

I think so. currently, it works like caps lock. imagine if you are playing a fps like half life. if you press caps lock, then your character always runs, until you press caps lock again.

but you can also just hold the shift button and you will run until you let it go.

I’d like for us to have the option 2.

No, assuming default keybind, if you press and hold the middle mouse button (move and steer) you move, if you let go you stop.

I’m not talking about the middle mouse button, I’m talking about the run/walk toggle.

What we have now kinda works, but you’d have to bind to say shift or something so you’re not taken out of whatever you’re doing but I’m sure they could make a “Push to Walk” button instead, can’t be that hard I think. Would be nice to have.

I don’t understand then, if you’ve toggled on walk and press middle mouse you walk until you let go. If you toggle on run and press middle mouse you run until you let go.

But you said “hold to run. or hold to walk depending on what the current toggled state is.” so you implied you already had to toggle.

And “autorun” already walks/runs at your current toggled speed too.

So yeah. If you want a separate button for something else then macro it.

for example,

a) if the player has pressed ‘walk/run toggle’ and their character is set to WALK, then holding this proposed button, would make the character run while moving and letting go of it would revert to walking while moving.

b) if the player has pressed ‘walk/run toggle’ and their character is set to RUN, then holding this proposed button, would make the character walk while moving and letting go of it would revert to running while moving.

I found this video somebody made. I think it demonstrates what I am talking about.
