Holding weapons

After 16 years, can we finally get proper weapon holding idle animation?

There ARE some in the game, you can see them in the character creation preview (e.g. dwarf holding a gun like an actual rifle etc), but ingame, when you take your weapon out, you’re just using the same old standing idle animation, just with a weapon in your hand (in the better case. Otherwise just glued to your hand instead of actually holding it).

It looks somewhat tolerable on 1h swords/axes/maces/fists and shields and maybe bows (though holding it with both hands with an arrow nocked ready to pull the bowstring and aim would be 100% better), but the rest of them look quite weird.
Especially guns, crossbows and 2handed weapons. Daggers as well, I mean daggers already look weird because we hold them like swords instead of proper reverse grip, but whatever.

this would be nice instead of focusing on colors should fix basic stuff in-game first, like animations

I actually had a similar idea, conversation with some of my friends a few months ago about possible idle animations.

How cool it would be if your character starts cleaning his sword, axe, mace, basically whatever weapon he is wielding after a few seconds of being idle?

Or as a rogue for example your character would flip around it’s daggers.

If you are using a polearm, maybe your character could pummel it into the ground.

It even creates negative image for a game.

It’s bad enough the preview shows you in a gear you’re not getting…

Imagine you are a new player. You’re kinda hyped by the awesome poses and animations in the character creation. You create a character, and you end up in a beggar gear holding your weapon like a club, no matter what your weapon actually is. You shut the game down and go play another game, because this one is literally LYING to you from the start.

I’m more annoyed by staff and polearm positioning while on your back.
Like wtf are they even thinking sometimes…

It would be great if we could have a ‘pick your character’s idle stance’ feature. With several of them of course being your character holding your weapon in a few different ways.

Yeah, I’d love that.

yeah… sometimes the blade of a polearm sits square against your back, while the handle sticks like 2 metres out into the sky… same with staves really. Or basically any weapon. Seen it on axes, seen it on maces…

The 2hmace sheath position really grabs my goat. I hate it, it prevents me using 2hmace when the bulk of the weapon sits square on the back and the hand is like 3ft above your head.

As a caster for the most part I find how staves really extend well above to be really bad looking.

Then there’s off hand items… don’t get me started on those.

I would love to hold 2handed weapons like how monks hold their brewmaster artifact weapon. There is really no reason not to give us an option when the stance is already in the game. Holding huge 2handed weapons the way we do and just run around with it like it’s nothing feels weird.

problem is there is no standard size for weapons, so some animations would look really weird when (for example) some knives are as big as swords. Cleaning the sword you probably thinking about a standard looking sword but there is literally sword in flames in this game, i mean i I’m not sure a warrior is cool enough to just casually clean a flaming sword.

I would just like to add.
Even the best bowman in the world can’t hold the draw for long, (needless to say how long it can be held in that position is inversely proportional with how high the draw weight is).
So a more realistic idle position for bows, without being “bland” would be something more like this:

That depends on the kind of blade. Some are meant to be used upwards, others downwards. Not all blades have the same exact purpose. However, would be cool if some of them were held that way.

So would I. I am a sucker for customization wherever it is possible (like glyphs which atm are just wasted potential that could add so much more, for example).

So, being able to choose the idle animation would be great too. Although for some weapons I can see there not being much options or diversity. Like, between each type of 1H weapons, for example.

This animation exists, but it’s CLIENT side only, which is STUPID. I will grab a picture and edit.

Look, it’s AWESOME, but NOBODY ELSE CAN EVEN SEE THIS.

yes, that’s exactly how it should look like for bows.
