Holy pala vs disc priest

Is it normal that a holy paladin is supposed to not only do more healing but also more dmg than a disc priest?. I mostly play 2v2 and i can’t figure out if i’m just being bad or if disc priest is simply underpowered.

It really depends. If they let you freecast everything, you should be able to outputt more damage than hpal. Besides, hpal is almost instant casting everything so if you don’t make enough pressure, he will start dpsing without penalty. We have to cast and turret-heal to survive, hpals not.

Oh, ye, I almost forgot our precious nerf of Schism and most of our class dmg sources. Yay!

Right, but I mean as a Disc (i play with ret) i’m the one being targeted like 80% of the games. Which makes it even harder for me to output dmg. So would this be normal in this case that the hpal do more dmg?

Hpalas can do a lot of dmg if they’re allowed to use wings offensively. It all depends on pressure and momentum. If your team has the momentum, disc can do loads of dmg and heal almost exclusively with atonement. If the other team has the momentum, you wont have time to do much, and rely on smend spam to heal.

Overall across all matchups disc will do more dmg than hpala, but also less healing. Playing with a ret is not your best option though. It is good vs some comps, but extremely bad vs other comps. Very rock-paper-scissors. If you play with a rogue or feral on the other hand, you have a fair chance vs most comps.

If you want an easy ride to high rating, your best option is to play holy priest and team up with a destro lock.

Anyways, your gear is very bad, and 1900 is not a bad rating this early in the season. If you have proper gear and played with a decent rogue, you’d have a far easier time

Good to know, Thanks!
Another thing is, I am playing with Radiance as a pvp-talent. I am aware of the fact that most priests don’t play with this talent because of the mana issue we have, however I feel it’s a bit challenging to change it out. I feel like I do not have any “saving” abilities any longer.
Do you guys play with Radiance? I think it’s fairly good vs double dps. However, I was using it basically vs any comp. Is there any comps, except for double dps, that radiance is a must?

I only play radiance vs double dps, otherwise it’s Trinity. Lots of matches vs healers are focused on dampening, so I don’t like radiance at all. I just use it to survive through burst.

I only use radiance in 2s vs double dps.

Most people will use trinity+dome+dark as a go-to build.

Personally I use that vs most comps, and then change it up a bit:

  • trinity+prem+purification vs mage/lock+healer
  • trinity+prem+dome vs hpala+rogue or some rsham comps

In some extreme cases you might wanna play trinity+dome+purification vs teams that have for instance infinite stars along with claw and/or maledict trinket, but that is mostly relevant on higher rating when you queue into the same team(s) over and over.

I see on your armory page that you have schism and b&s, which I hope you’re not using in arena. Schism is hardly ever good now in 8.3 (was only really good because it used to affect essences+trinkets too). You should run with masochism+twist/casti in most cases. If you know you’ll barely be a target, go b&s. Generally play twist vs teams that have ms + dks, and castigation vs the rest.

Ty very much for the good tips! and yeah you’re right about Schism, it doesn’t seem to be that effective any longer.
I’ve started to play without radiance now, and it sure does help me with not only my dmg, but also mana!
Do you have any good tips of how to handle mistweavers?
As i mentioned before, I’m playing with a ret. We’re having such a hard time against monk healers now for some reason.
Any tip would be helpful, thanks!

Best advice against MW is pre-MC cocoon. Once he gets out of CC and his mate is ~30% he will probably be spamming cocoon keybind so he will accidentally cocoon himself because his mate is MC-ed, then you MC monk and finish the dps. Playing with MC is super efective but it can also counter yourself.

Mws usually play with a dk, dh, ww or warr, so your main concern should be to position correctly. Make it hard for mw to heal his teammate, and have your ret pala play with repentance. Try to pull enemy dps in a bad spot, get a rep on healer and burst. Depending on how far enemy healer is when he gets cc’ed, you can try run for a fear (save freedom for this).

Just make sure you’re always thinking about your positioning and making it hard for mw to heal. In ruins and mugambala the starting room is often a good spot.

If mw pushes in and plays in your face, you can obviously swap to him. But if he gets to safety its probably not a good idea to chase him. So just play mana efficient, keep pressuring the dps and try get reps on mw. In some cases it might be good stunning the dps, other times the mw. Very situational, but generally good on dhs and wws, less good on dks.

Good tips about positioning at the entrance/spawnroom, it’s easier for my Ret to get a repentance on MW aswell in that case.
Usually they have so many abilities to avoid rep:
Sap, Ring, teleport, stun and roll.
in RoL i would always go to the tomb, but yeah that just makes it even harder for my ret to rep him.
Thank you for the advices!
