Holy paladin is not remotely able to compete with other classes. In higher M+ key groups you will not get invited to keys So, what is the solution here? Blizzard keeps re-working holy paladin but we are in the same place we always are. Holy paladin CAN be a great option in M+ and when played well can offer a group a lot of extra utility/support, damage reduction. But people have negative experiences with paladin healers as I believe it needs to be played well to be a good M+ healing class.
Yesterday evening I spent all night being declined to +12 keys despite having the key timed at 11++. I am not going to re-roll, it’s more likely I’d just cancel my sub. I played holy paladin since vanilla. It is the class I enjoy playing but because people perceive them as not being a meta or close to meta class/role we basically do not get invited. We need be able to offer something that gets us invited to groups.
Prot/ret is top of the meta rankings and holy paladin sits in this weird space that is, not shaman, not disc priest and not evoker. So why invite another healer time? We can just wait 30 seconds longer and get a shaman.
I am really interested in hearing other opinions on this!
Make friends, get invites.
It baffles me that people can crank keys all the way up to 11 without adding people along the way then they act all surprised when class and score stops them at the next gatekeeping hurdle.
Everybody struggles to get into 12’s because of the jump and people being picky.
Maybe you see the game a bit different. And if you are a shaman 2700+ rating with all keys timed at 11 you are going to get invites. I can’t say I have made “friends” outside of my guild since 4-5 expansions ago and even then, not people that I can play keys with. Half the people in M+ only speak to rage at people. It’s not exactly a friend making space. Even if you time a key with someone doesn’t mean you’ll run a key again with them.
Add them if you have a good run. You aren’t asking to be besties but “hey, wanna tank a key with me?” in a whisper gets a positive response quite often. Put some effort in like this and suddenly you have a list of people who you can possibly run higher keys with.
That’s an idea but not really my thing either. But it’s also an idea to make us needed in groups. Not just an option, unlike disc priest or resto shammy which will always get an invite. I take the point but right now what is holding me back is the fact that no one wants a holy paladin. So it’s not really going to help much.
A bit off topic, but how does one learn to play holy paladin, without having a nervous breakdown?
Follower dungeons or proving grounds?
