I’m new to the class/spec and running a melee build, never hard cast anything. Really love the feel of the spec and playing like a melee dps with heals, but god damn I have to drink every 2-3 packs just because I’m using Crusader Strike, Holy Shock and Judgement…
I really hope this doesn’t mean the melee based spec isn’t on top in shadowlands, since holy power just fits so perfectly with it!
I wouldn’t worry about it too much, this only happens during the pre-patch because of how the playstyle is due to azerite / essences.
Once we actually get SL, Crusader Strike spamming will no longer be a thing, since most of the time we won’t play crusader’s might, and only occasionally use Crusader Strike.
In raids yes we won’t be using crusader strike however in mythic + the best build is very much still a melee build that uses crusader strike almost on cool down
On the beta paladins are reporting extreme mana issues and an inability to throttle or control mana regeneration short of afking. It’s had a significant impact on m+ slowing the gameplay hugely
Sloot did a round table with the holy paladin discord going into much more detail
The best place to catch up to date information on holy paladins in the hammer of wrath discord.
Unless you have exceptional gear and outgear content you will experience mana issues as a Paladin pre-patch, the items and borrowed power needed to empower your heals and mana management just dont exist in the game at the moment. I am looking at you “Resplendent Light” conduit.
Prideful seasonal affix helps with mana in SL dungeons a bit.
You usually end up killing the Prideful add by the time you deplete a full mana bar, unless you’re just mindlessly spamming CS, which after the water changes just loses you more time for drinking than you gain from DPSing from those few extra CS hits.
But yeah in raiding, we’re probably gonna play the HL build with Resplendent Light and double IoL leggo, won’t even have time for CS usage lul.
Actually went into a normal nyalotha with a m+ group I played with and the first thing I thought about was how the hell am I going to have enough mana for a raid fight? I went oom close to the end of all 7/12 encounters, now imagine that on a current raid in shadowlands… And that’s also because I was trying to hold back generating holy power, which basically means I’m afk.
Oh, and pug tanks generally don’t give a damn about your mana, which goes perfectly with their change to the way food works! Awesome!
Mana, mana, mana is the biggest issue especially in raids. I did LFR on a dungeon heroic geared paladin. The Healing is fine until you get mana starved. A little bit after the boss was half health, I was OOM, thus spend most time casting Holy Light and no dpsing at all. Casted Holy light occasionally.
My favorite part of being a Holy Paladin is that when a Tank dies in the last seconds of the fight, I normally take over by Bubble, Taunt and Dps boss down. In the same LFR I mentioned above, this happened. I was the last man standing with boss less than 1% health. Taunt + Bubble, however was not able to down the boss as I did not have enough mana to dps.
I saw people are also complaining about the Infusion of Light Buff. Personally I do not mind it by understand their concerns as it does not seem to be so impactful.
Changes that might help Holy Paladin’s Mana issues
Have Crusader Strike cost less mana or have Wings give some additional mana, let’s say 5% mana on cast and 1% per second through its duration
Changes that might help Holy Paladin’s Infusion of Light
Have Judgment reward 1 Holy Power when used during Infusion of Light proc or keep it as it is but also reduces the cooldown of some abilities like Wings, LOH etc.
In my opinion the above will definitely help, while also enables synergy between talents and abilities.
I disagree here. Consider PvP. Almost all of the healing associated PvP talents are tied to holy light. With the old infusion we could almost instant cast holy light. Now it’s a 2.5 second cast which is much easier to kick. By changing infusion they have essentially broken holy paladin in PvP. Our talents don’t work any more
Whoever was “un-pruning” clearly played during WOTLK because both the legendary and the conduit are updated versions of “glyph of holy light” and “libram of renewal” from WOTLK.
i agree, it just boggels my mind because it makes very little sense in the context of the rest of the class. its as if they haven’t played that class since wrath
