I’ve completed Normal Castle Nathria this week ( 10/10 ) and while most bosses I’m between 2.5k-2.8k HPS it still feels lower to other classes. I know we are in a bit tough situation at the moment but another paladin in the guild is parsing with 3.5k-4k HPS and I don’t understand why.
We have the same talents, same legendary, I assume we are doing the same rotation and I just heal less. Only thing I notice is that he heals on most fights 10-12% of his total with Glimmer while for me I rarely push more than 8-9%.
The only reason I’m reaching is that he is using Divine Toll every 1 min ( so that’s at least 3-4 times per fight) while I’m trying to push with my blessings as Nightfae. Or maybe his stats are distributed differently. Currently I’m at 16% crit 11% haste and 25% Mastery.
Is Divine Toll really THAT impactful to boost 1k HPS in a fight?
Crazy to think about it …
P.s. I am never close to running OOM, no idea if that has to do with anything.
Well Kyrian is really strong for Holy Paladin not to mention that every minute cooldown adds Holy Power that gives him at least one extra WoG per minute compared to you plus that glimmer does heal quite abit more. As far as the big difference its probably not just the Covenant I’d would imagine that he have better stat weights than you and potentially also a better player.
HPS can differ with 1k between the same covenant and spec aswell depending on these things.
Yes, id say its that impactful with the right legendary, conduit and talent. One press each minute gives 5 shocks barriers and put glimmer on them, plus gives free 5 HP. It gives tons of HPS.
Unfortunately there is no definitive guide online on how to heal in Shadowlands. WoWhead and Icy-veins are saying different things. Every guide in YouTube has its own take. Mostly I can see some people continuing to run the melee healing build and some are now opting for range healing.
I looked up some footage of Limit / Echo and they are running 1 Holy Pally tops in the entire raid (probably for the utility).
I don’t mind the class being complex and having to push myself to learn and perform with it. However, I really didn’t expect the covenant choice to make SUCH an impact. Problem is that if there is such big discrepancy they either have to Buff all 3 other covenants (unlikely) or nerf Divine Toll. Nerfing it though will bring the class even lower overall.
If any of you have more experiencing in reading Healing parses please share what to watch out for. Currently I can see that the parsing is based roughly on Healing+ HPS only.
so i just want to quickly address a few points as a lot of the information here is not detailed enough or generally miss leading
stat weights. stat weights for holy need to be generated dynamically either using QELive or WowAnalyser along side log data. pick a fight where you were decently challenged and didnt die. ive linked one of my own so you can see how it works. You can see from my log that mastery is devalued because I already have so much of it and my effectiveness is only around 80%. putting it below both versi and crit. which directly contradicts the stat weights you will see on websites. this is why need to be generated in order to ensure they are accurate.
The overview section of the analyser page can give you some more general feed back do take it with a pinch of salt as it is impossible to play perfectly. do keep in mind as well that haste in particular is tied to your reaction speed. if you are missing gcds and leaving hs on cd for a long time then it has less value.
rotation. without a log i cant tell you exactly what you are doing wrong. but what i will say is holy paladin hps right now lives and dies on proper use of its cool downs. if you arnt planning wings properly then your hps will always be relatively low compared to the other paladins. and naturally divine toll dose feed into the burst window by providing upfront a lot of burst healing through the generation of 5 glimmers, 5 shocks and 5 shock barriers. (do keep in mind that if you already have out a number of gimmers they will also benefit from the 5 sets of glimmer healing)
definitive healing guides. if you wish to stay up to date with the latest holy paladin theory crafting then the best place is the hammer of wrath discord. all of the guide writers for all of the major websites are there in chat along side a number of cutting edge raiders. they can help you with rotation, log analysis and trying to identify exactly what is going wrong.
on the point of divine toll. there is a reason 99% of holy paladins who raid are using divine toll (according to wow progress) . its synergy is excellent. and its throughput vastly outweighs any benefit from any of the other covenant. there are niche cases where ashen hallow could be used but on the whole divine toll is the default. however do keep in mind this is normal. and normal rarely has dmg patters that are significant enough to really see what your healing output is. more than likely your lower hps is a result of poor cooldown management rather than divine toll. that said expect most if not all competitive paladins to be using divine toll
also on the point of the ranged build vs the melee build. the melee build should be the default. it has higher throughput but it is harder to play. in 30 man raid sizes you might see HL build pull ahead but realistically you should still be playing the melee build. for me personally i like to look at top parses on progress kills via warcraft logs to see what other paladins are doing.
i do hope this helps without seeing a log i cant really give more detailed feed back. i really hope you consider joining the holy paladin discord. its a 1 stop shop for all of your holy paladin needs.
