They really should get cracking and being bold with adding more open things. I think what is holding them back in 2020 is probably China.

Zero concrete examples, a few âvague hintsâ.
I personally have headcanon that Kilâjaeden was gay, and he was unrequitedly in love with Velen. Now this didnât fuel his eventual downfall (itâs not to blame) but thereâs stuff in their dialogue that makes me think that although Velen saw him as a brother, Kilâjaeden always saw him as a bit more despite knowing it would never be. A kind of profound idolizing love he had for him, which eventually did come to fuel his obsession and subsequently his expressed regret where he appears to show remorse when slain, about having estranged himself from Velen.
Somewhere in âanother AUâ Velen did reciprocate on these feelings and him and KJ are to this day ruling a united MacâAree, where Argus stood defiantly against the Legion and it remains as a shining example of wonder and prosperity. With Velen by his side KJ eventually got the admiration he craved from the one person he wanted it from, and Sargeras was blowing smoke into the wind as the two rebuked him.

trying to work out which is worse between that and a blizzard storywriter implying that the reason why there are no LGBT characters is because their stories just arenât compelling

Apparantly the rule of cool that their storytelling goes on doesnt work for LGTBQ characters.

This is very much true yes, sorry! 2019-and 2020 has sadly shown that there is miles left to go on that department.
Would be cool if Shadowlands gave us some major characters, or had some of the faction leaders be LGTBQ, and -not- kill them off after the reveal either but let us have that for a couple of years.

Personally I remember the days before the lustbar, people who were ERPers would state their sexuality in TRPs predecessor (straight/gay, never saw a queer char IC to this day) so it used to be a way for me to avoid ERP if it mentioned sexuality regardless of what was stated
Nowadays I go purely by lustbar, wouldnât be suprised if a few players still used sexuality references as well tho, maybe thatâs where it comes from?

I would suspect China more. They actively ban games and movies for stuff like this. Youâll also have to take Russia into account.
Reading through the article again, I just saw/realised that they are geniuenly counting the meme-part of the " The Day that Deathwing Came: What Really Happened" quest with the belf male as actual representation.

There are A LOT of major characters with zero prior romantic interests (Anduin, Baine) that could be made LGB without there being any âlore contradictionâ nerds can cling to.

I personally wouldnât have minded seeing something with Thalryssa maybe taking a liking to someone other than Lorâthemar as I kinda personally always saw/read some deeper history between her and Elisande in my own head (even if he is a decent enough guy)
